In this short poetry collection, A. Boland explores her complex feelings of grief related to pregnancy loss and infertility. The poems, written as part of her therapeutic process, provide raw insight into her journey- from the first positive pregnancy test to two years after. Through these poems, written as if to her unborn child, she offers an authentic account of the impact of this experience on her mental health, relationships, and future.

Have you ever considered that women who have had stillbirth, or an early miscarriage are still mothers? Have you ever considered that women who have had the misfortune of having an abortion without wanting to (by their very bodies' own decision) should be celebrated as mothers? How sympathetic are you to a woman who has lost a baby, had a miscarriage, and or even been threatened to have an abortion against their own will? Tears of the Unborn was a deep, touching, and relatable read for me. Placing myself into the situation, I can understand the grief and guilt she's been plagued with. This collection brought back to me just how devastating a miscarriage (an unwanted abortion) by your very body can affect your whole mindset, thoughts and even your dreams. I recommend to anyone who is looking for a good, emotional, inspiring and touching read.

Being a mother is a gift, most women welcome and look forward to. Grief, when comes with disappointments, can be overwhelming and destroy our peace of mind, our hopes, and future dreams. From the moment a woman starts nurturing a pregnancy, she's considered a mother. However, life can be cruel and a loss can take away that hope. But that doesn't make her any less of a mother!!
