A boy on the hunt for a sugar daddy. A dangerous man with a deadly obsession. Nothing good can come of them.
Portland spent years scheming to own the man of his dreams. He did everything within his power to corner his obsession. All of that hard work was for nothing and now he’s left bitter and looking for an outlet for his rage. A tiny poker dealer with a sassy smile will do as well as anyone.
When Tarek moved to Atlantic City, he had one goal in to find an older, richer man to sweep him away. He’s had his eye on Portland for a while, but the guy hasn’t noticed before now. Tarek has his attention, and he’s not letting go, even if it costs him everything. With Portland, and all his secrets, that’s a reality that might very well come to fruition.
Duped is the fourth book in Charity Parkerson’s Atlantic City’s Most Wanted series. These are sexy and sometimes dark stories where the richest and most dangerous men in Atlantic City meet their match. These are best enjoyed when read in order.
Charity Parkerson is an award winning and multi-published author with several companies. Born with no filter from her brain to her mouth, she decided to take this odd quirk and insert it in her characters.

Honestly, I only read this book because of the cover. I didn't like pearls before, but this cover is gorgeous. The book itself... if you need something quick and meaningless with no depth and not much emotion to fill the time, then this might work. Based on the blurb, I had expected a little more. The book is short, but I still think it could have packed more into it. I completely miss the emotions of the two main characters, and the little bit of “darkness” that's in there is rather laughable. Not bad, but, you know, booooring. Hmm, that's unfortunate; the passages I highlighted are good in themselves, but completely misleading. None of what was envisioned by any of the MCs was even remotely carried out, either sexually or in terms of the plot. So no quotes for this book; I don't like it when something is leading readers astray.
This story revolves around two men whose desires lead them down a treacherous path. Portland, consumed by obsession and resentment after failing to claim the man he long pursued, turns his attention toward Tarek—a charming poker dealer seeking financial security through a wealthy benefactor. Tarek has been interested in Portland for some time, and now that he finally has Portland's attention, he's unwilling to let go—no matter the cost. But Portland carries dangerous secrets, and Tarek’s persistence may drag him into a world far darker than he anticipated. It’s a tense, high-stakes game where desire, obsession, and danger collide.
This was a dark story with at the centre of it a love story. Portland was bitter about a past lost love and Tarek just wanted financial security and love. There were plenty of emotions and feelings in this story. Easy to read, feel and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.
‘Sir, are you trying to buy me?’ – another intriguing romance
Expanding her dramatic and entertaining Atlantic City’s Most Wanted series – RUINED, DEMENTED, ENSLAVED now DUPED - Charity Parkerson continues to create characters who, despite being opposites, eventually bond…with heat! This time ‘round, the principle men are sugar daddy Portland and short poker dealer Tarek, and the race to the end of this challenging ‘partnership’ provides a sizzling ride! The sensitivity with which Charity paints her characters is evident as the story opens: ‘Portland Wales. Tarek had been watching him for a while. The guy threw money around like it meant nothing, especially on substantially younger men, supposedly…or one in particular, anyhow. Rumor had it that much younger man had recently married…’ From that intro on is a dark but entertaining ride – another Charity Parkerson winner!
My expectations going into most of Parkerson's books tend to be on the lower side so I think I played myself by actually getting a little bit excited for this one. Overall, it had a great premise with not so great execution.
Portland and Tarek are likable enough to get you through the short 100 or so pages that make up this story. And it was entertaining to get to see two characters in their respective positions, who trust each other so whole-heartedly, even when in every practical sense they really shouldn't.
I wouldn't necessarily recommend this, put I also wouldn't say it's not worth checking out. So just take that as you will.
Rating 3.5* Short and sweet. I would definitely want to know more about Portland how did he end up this way. He seemed to be a different character in the previous book. Not much to this one but I think it will be a good bridge for the next story.
