DCI Peter Moone #4

Of Rage and Ruin

Rate this book
When a woman is found in her kitchen, bludgeoned and strangled with her own tights, it seems a killer who stalked Plymouth’s streets twenty years ago has returned to carry on his series of horrific murders.

After the killer strikes again only days later, DCI Peter Moone and DI Mandy Butler find themselves investigating a series of brutal murders committed by a woman-hating serial killer who might be posing as a handyman.

Not only do Butler and Moone have to find the handyman killer as he goes on a rampage, but they also have to try and stop the psychotic DS Faith Carthew as she once again strives to rise up the ranks and become their boss.

When Carthew makes a deal with a dangerous criminal motorcycle gang, it becomes clear to Moone that she also has a career in violent crime in mind and that no one’s safe, not even his team.

He knows she must be stopped by any means necessary before it’s too late…

I was surprised that there has only been one review of the this book. The story and police procedurals are great. The main characters, DCI Peter Moone and DI Mandy Butler have a very complex relationship and you could be forgiven for believing the DI Butler is the SIO. She certainly talks down to her DCI, who by chance lives in a caravan.

There are 2 different murder cases. A woman is found in her kitchen strangled with her own tights, and a similar murder was carried out 20 years ago. Is it the same murderer? It comes quite clear early in the book who the woman hating killer is but identifying him is not so easy and he is still killing.

Butler and Moone have to find the killer before he commits any more crimes. They also have to stop the psychotic DS Faith Carthew. A character from previous books who has already killed senior police officers and family members and burnt down DCI Moone's previous caravan but no evidence can be found to convict her and she is still in the force.

I leave it to the readers to find out what happens to all the characters but it's a really good read, different, but you will not be dissapointed. It is very very important that you read the previous books or at least the last 2. Not to do so will spoil the reading of this book.
