Hello World I'm M.T.Harrte , and I live and breathe books. How cliche right? I fancy myself as a werewolf wrangler, troll trainer, and would be vampire victim. On a serious note I have always had a love of books since I was young. I recently decided to share my weirdness with everyone and I hope you enjoy. Step into my world and be prepared to stay a while because once the door closes....there is no escape!!!(insert evil laugh.)

*Warning: May contain spoilers*

If it's one thing I love, it's a strong female lead, particularly one that's kick ass. This definitely has it. And no, I do not mean "bitchy".

Alexis is Alpha of her wolf pack after her father commits suicide (truth found out later). This is only one point of contention between her and her mate, Mason. Because, you know, it's a problem for a female to be a leader...

Alexis also has a seat on the Council of the Dark Court. Every 1000 yrs the Queen or King is rotated. Well current Queen Samira, a ruthless and bloodthirsty vampire queen (no pun intended) doesn't want to step down. Not long after the fighting begins she disappears and Alexis takes the throne.

Another point of contention with Alexis and her mate, which is supposed to keep her off the throne but doesn't, is that she's pregnant with a "pup" she doesn't want. She isn't ready for a kid and it's not what's best for the pack or being Queen. She's too dedicated to leading and can't be distracted. Of course everyone has an opinion of what she should do. Isn't that always the way? Everyone has an opinion when it's not THEY who are dealing with the problem (considering no one tells men what to do when they're going to be fathers...)

She does try to get rid of it, but it doesn't work. So she has it and there are plenty of people around that take care of it for her.

Now her mate, Mason, is caught in bed with her best friend Olivia - the mate of Mason's brother. Both Mason and Olivia are banished from the pack, and find and help Samira rally troops against Alexis. Mason's also responsible for Alexis's father's death. For over a year he's lied to her about TWO things!! Hmmm...

There's some mystery behind her new personal guard, Thadius, and I'm curious as to what that is.

Why is Alexis a strong female? She's leader of her pack. She deals with an unwanted kid HER way (before and after), doesn't cry over the loss of a mate, but instead gets rid of him and the former friend then moves on with her life, takes the throne, makes new alliances, takes down enemies, makes hard decisions based on the benefit of everyone instead of her own emotions, and has sex simply because she NEEDS the release instead of some emotionally attached B.S.

I LOVE this woman! I can't wait for the next book!

Oh my goodness!!! It has been a while since I have read a book that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time!! I was so engrossed in the main heroine, Alexis, that I wanted to jump inside the book and beat the crap out of her wrong doers! I love how M. T. Harrte made the main heroine a bad a_ _, but one that still had a heart and could love those around her.

Alexis is forced to sit on the Dark Court's Council, which is made up of my favorite paranormal legends... Vampires, werewolves, trolls, ghosts, and many more, after her father's untimely death. Every thousand years, one of the different sects is up to rule. It is the werewolves' turn and Alexis is in line to be the new Queen. Of course the outgoing Queen has a different outlook on who should rule. Where would a heroine be without the men around her vowing for attention right??? Let's start off with the ones that had to grow on me, Palo and Thadius. I wasn't sure how these two men were going to fit into Alexis's life and if I even liked them or not. After seeing the love and devotion they offered Alexis, they won me over. I found myself rooting for Alexis to find love with Palo and then totally jumping ship and hoping she would fall in love with Thadius. Then we have Ethan and Isaak... Ethan is the ghost representative on the council and serves as a friend. I love how he snaps Alexis out of her funks in a snarky way, much like how we as women deal with our friends when they are pouting and being utterly ridiculous. Now Isaak... Oh Isaak... There is an underlying mystery there that I hope book 2 will go into more details about. He and Alexis meet outside the council and they have an automatic spark. That spark is played down, but I really feel that one is there.

Alexis is faced with many decisions, issues, and conspiracies that keep her, her guards, and her readers on their toes! I want you to read the book, so I am not going to go any further or hint at what those conspiracies, decisions, and issues are. ;) I give this book 4 solid stars!! I am anxiously awaiting book 2 to see what the heck Alexis does to those who were causing said conspiracies! I have never wanted to be a werewolf so bad in my life!! Great job M. T. Harrte and please keep us howling!

This was a fun, fast paced step back into the paranormal realm for me. Paranormal romance is my first love but I haven't read much of it lately. This book brings not only weres and vamps to the forefront, but goblins, trolls, demons, ghosts and griffins. I rarely come across paranormal books with so many fantastical elements, so that alone drew me to this story. There was mystery, romantic elements, deception, murder and an ass-kicking werewolf queen who cussed like a sailor.

Alexis is up to take her place as the queen of everything paranormal, but in order to take her place as a leader, she cannot have any ties, including a mate or child. The problem is, she's already pregnant. She refuses to let anything stand in her way of her rightful title, but she soon discovers that power isn't the only thing that is important to her. But by the time she realizes that, she's lost everything.

Alexis was tough on the outside, but her icy heart slowly started to thaw as she comes to grips with loss and discovers she has feelings for two men she would never have considered in the past - her ex mate's brother and a vampire. Her men will do anything to keep her safe and vice versa. Even though Alexis was stubborn and proud, she took care of her men, not caring what anyone thought.

Alexis lost a lot but her grief turned into rage, and revenge is the only thing she has left, especially after the twist at the end.

This was a page turner for me because there were a lot of exciting things happening, but at times, I think more "recovery" scenes were needed for me to catch my breath. It seemed that just when one dilemma ended, another immediately began so I didn't have a lot of time to reflect. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves all things paranormal because it was a fun read.

I have to admit, I was thrown off by the werewolf storyline. Its so been done (I.e. twilight, sookie stackhouse, etc) but I gave it a shot and boy was I rewarded! It tells the tale of a female werewolf about to ascend the throne as Queen of the council of the dark creatures. She is a very well written character, and I immediately connected with her. Shes got that part of "everyman" in her that makes her likable. Plus I love a character that swears as much as she does. This book definitely has some more adult themes in it versus young adult but I count that as a good thing. There are also a few secondary characters that I'm curious to learn the background of and one vicious villian that keeps you guessing. I love the incorporation of other fantasy creatures like goblins, griffins, and fairies. All in all, great start to a series and I cant wait for book 2!!!

UPDATE - The author has told me that she has changed editors due to being unhappy with the editing in this book, so future books will not have this problem.

This book was an easy read, with vampires/werewolves and other magical creatures - all of which I have enjoyed reading about since I was a child.

The main character is a werewolf destined to become queen due to her fathers death. There are complications, of course, and many twists and turns along the way.

The book ends with a cliffhanger, plus many more unanswered questions, which hopefully will be answered in the next book.

One slight thing is that the editing leaves a lot to be desired. It doesn't take away from the story, but is something which did put me off a little. If this is taken care of with the next book then I look forward to it even more.

Really loved this book. Alexis kicks butt! She knows what she wants and how she wants it. She nice when she needs to be an a hard ass when she needs to be. She's strong and also loving. Love Palo and Thadius. Thadius more so. I have an infatuation with vamps. Can't help it. Can't wait to see what's in store for them in the next book. And with the way this one ended, I'm sure it's going to be pretty exciting!

The book was interesting and read more like a first draft than a completed novel. There were pieces of the story that needed to be better developed. All in all it was a good start and makes you want to see what happens next.
