Empty Your Cup is a unique poetry collection by C. Martins. I often find poetry difficult to comprehend, but this collection is so relevant to my experiences that I was immediately impressed by the poet’s insight. Each poem made me think about a personal experience, which speaks to the poet’s talent.

This collection of poems focuses on feelings, most notably anger, fear, compassion, and empathy. “Let It Be” emphasized a practice of mindfulness, while “Let Go of What You Know” encourages contemplation of acceptance. Many of these poems possess therapeutic qualities, evoking memories of my career as a therapist. Notably, “Mirror” reminded me of things I have said while facilitating group therapy sessions, while “Stereotype” speaks to how our experiences help shape our view of ourselves and the world. The poem “Refuge” stands out as my personal favorite.

I am grateful for C. Martins contacting me to read and review Empty Your Cup. She provided me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I have photos and additional information that I'm unable to include here. It can all be found on my blog, in the link below.

“Empty Your Cup” is a chapbook of rhyming poetry that offers a deeper look into everyday occurrences. The poems are short and introspective, packing a punch that will leave the reader contemplating how they internalize their world.

While this collection can be considered inspirational, it in no way erases the difficulties in life. I loved the honesty within the lines of each poem.

In not shying away from the negatives, “Empty Your Cup” successfully highlights that one’s choices and thoughts shape their reality. The questions posed in this collection were thought provoking and worth contemplating.

I especially loved “Mental Maze” for its rhythm and pacing.

A nice collection of insightful poetry by C. Martins. There's a little something for everyone in this collection of thought-provoking pieces. I want to shoutout a particularly delightful read titled 'Walk in my Shoes' - a relatable poem using footwear and eyewear as an example to highlight the different ways in which we all choose to show up. C. has a way of writing that is approachable and enjoyable to everyone, whether they're a poetry lover or not!

This poet ponders overarching meaning in little moments. "Each visit by the moon is a sign that dawn is near." I enjoyed the concepts explored in this collection like: vulnerability, courage, approaching life head on, not living in regret. I'd bet these poems would play well as spoken word because the word play and rhyming build momentum and expectation. "Mental maze" was my favorite.

A nice collection of stream of consciousness poetry. The perspectives and reflections are thought provoking. My particular favorite “Diamond” viewing our difficult experiences through life and how we work through them as a rock being refined into a diamond, and giving clarity to ourselves.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed the rhyming in this collection. It’s brief, but it touches on a lot of important topics in a very digestible way. Very quick & enjoyable read!
