For English speakers and readers. The title of this is "The Spider". The description goes as follows: "UNSTOPPABLE SERIAL KILLER. A DEADLY PUZZLE. DON'T GET CAUGHT IN THE WEB. Three years ago, Detective Saga Bauer received an ominous postcard described a gun and nine white bullets — one of which was intended for her partner, Detective Joona Linna. But as time passed, the threat faded. Until now. A sack with a decomposing body has been found hanging from a tree in the forest. A milky white bullets casting turns up at the scene. When the body count begins to rise, the police realize that the killer is sending riddles, offering them a chance to stop the murders before they happen. But the police always seem to arrive a moment too late. As they begin to close in, the case becomes more and more tangled. Someone is spinning a fiendishly intricate web, pulling Joona ever closer to a trap he may not be able to escape."
This is among the best mystery thrillers I've read, and I've read plenty. I had a hard time putting it down, so many twists and turns, heart pounding amount of tension. The mystery truly was intricate as a spider's web, I did not see any of it coming. The revelations came to me at the same time as the characters or right after, depending on how they were presented. However, if you aren't a fan of bloodshed, then I don't recommend reading this. The ending is satisfying though, so if that helps dampen all the death, then please pick this up!
Full marks for creating spine-chilling dread and scary atmosphere.
Both the lead characters, particularly Siga, are intriguing and they absorb you into their world.
It would have been full 5 stars if the police team assembled had such low capabilities, baring the lead characters. They don't even realize that they were being followed by the perpetrator for a long while.
I may try another by this author (pair) if the occasion does come up.
Although I have read several of the earlier books in the series, this one was not for me. Maybe I was not in the right frame of mind but I struggled to keep track of the characters and the violence was a bit too graphic. I loved the suspense but gave up about half way through. I might try again another time.
Spider(joona linna 9) by Lars Kepler: ratings story 10/10, characters 10/10, easy to read 10/10 Very good Swedish crime series #larskepler #spider #joonalinna9 #swedishcrime #thrillerbooks #crimeseries #mustreadbooks
i really like these authors, they write really well. I read about 100 pages, and i was just not in a spot where i could continue it, it is very dark. But very good Scandi noir. i read the last chapter, though!i can't rate it.
Another gripping read, a few shock moments but nothing that made me gasp. I found towards the end the story dragged and got a little repetitive, annoyed me how many times they were unable to “catch” the killer.
