The trials for the US swimming team to the games in Paris are in full swing when a young swimmer is found dead in the pool. It looks like suicide, but as detectives investigate, Miami Jones is drawn into the defense of the team's star athlete.
Miami learns of a bizarre death of another swimmer eight years ago that might be linked, and might put his almost client in the crosshairs.
But before he can defend a troubled hero, he must discover whether the young man has anything to do with either death. And the more he looks, the worse it gets.
A.J. Stewart has lived in so many places it feels like he has a home team in every game he sees. Which explains why his wife begins any sports telecast with "who are going for today?" A.J. and his family currently spend their time in Los Angeles and South Florida, but stay tuned, anything could happen.
Its at best a 3.5 for me. Its a likeable series and usually a fast read but I found myself putting this down often as my eyes glazed over with all the detailed information on competitive swimming.
That said, Miami is at a fundraiser for the Olympic hopefuls swim team when he is approached by a swimmer who says he's being blackmailed. Miami reluctantly agrees to look into it but by the time he gets to the swim arena the next day, there's a dead body. It's the "blackmailer" and Miami's client, Greg is a suspect- not unlike 8 years prior when his girlfriend committed suicide. He's persuaded to help Greg find out what's going on.
The past is linked to the present and Miami solves both.
Another winner in the Miami Jones series with his latest book. This series has always drawn me in. This one is extremely interesting because it involves U.S. swimmers and their tryouts for the Paris Olympics team. In the midst of the trials, one of the swimmers is murdered and Miami is asked to prove the top star isn’t involved. His investigation takes him to Omaha to look into another Olympic swimmer who died at a previous tryout. Are they related? Is his client guilty? Can he find out the truth? So many questions. And to top it off, he and Danielle are hoping to be accepted into the foster parent system. There were so many twists and turns that keeps you guessing until the end. Terrific job A. J. Stewart. I always look forward to the next one!
Once again I got sucked in and didn’t want it to end. That’s how this writer is. He takes you for a ride and gets your mind trying to figure out what his character is figuring out and it’s quite the ride. Without spoiling the story I had my eye on one character who I thought was the protagonist from the start. But our great storyteller whipped me around some corners that made me think no it’s this person and threw me off for a while. Like I’ve said before another good read.
Really, that’s all I can say. Brings to heart the pressures for Olympic athletes and the processes to get there. I laughed and I cried. As is my norm for reading series with new releases, I read the previous three prior to staring this one. Glad I did since that reminded me of the series history and gave me perspective for the underlying theme. I highly recommend the series and that it is read in order. So good! Awesome!
I enjoyed this book just as much as I've enjoyed all the other books in this wonderful series. And for all you other fans, if you haven't read "Three Strikes," it's sort of a "prequel' to this series, read it now!!! It's a full length novel and it will give you the story of the special friendship between Miami Jones and Lenny Cox. I absolutely loved it!
One thing for sure, if Miami Jones is on the case, it is going to be solved, and there will be lots of action while he does it. This time it is trials for the US Olympic Swim team. One of the swimmers is found drowned and their star swimmer is the main suspect. Miami must decide if he believes the swimmer is innocent before continuing the investigation.
I truly could not put this book down. Author Stewart has given us another awesome mystery filled with great characters, dialog and always-moving action. A timely tale following the recently completed Paris Olympics. Set aside a good chunk of reading time, dive in and enjoy this gold-medal story!
If you're a fan of the series, this is one of the better stories in it.
If you've never read the series, do yourself a favor and do so. I would highly recommend starting with number one to get a sense of who all the characters are, but you can read this as a standalone if you want.
Either way get on it. You'll be missing out if you don't.
Miami is hired by Greg Baxter, an olympic swimmer, because he is being blackmailed but he doesn’t know what that is about or who is doing it. Possibly to degrade his performance in the team selection trials leading to the Paris olympics. Then a teammate’s murder is discovered and Greg is accused. Miami is on the case. A great story.
MJ does it again knocks it over the bleachers it was a drawn out affair but I. The end it did all come together so much for the Olympics hard to imagine when I was younger always watched the games esp gymnastics oh well getting old ...ciao from Bob his and I God bless all...
I’ve read every book in the series and was really looking forward to this one. Unfortunately, I just couldn’t get into it. Love the character! But, just couldn’t get into the story.
I liked it because it was well written. The author obviously did homework and inresearch. It was not a difficult read, but sometimes these are the best kind.
Gotta love Miami Jones! Realistic and plausible stories. Down to earth character who hurts and bleeds when punched. Can't wait for book19! Thank A.J. Stewart
Miami seems to get more mature, but still remain Miami, with every book. Loved the characters, story line and finish. Always look forward to more Miami Jones.
