This book was fantastic I lobed the relationship between the main characters. The spicy scene was definitely 🥵 i sure hope there's more down the road

This book was a really good, fast paced read!! I haven’t read a lot of mafia romances, but I think I’ll be picking up more after this one!✨
I love Massimo! I feel like we really go a sense of who he is and the weight of his responsibilities that cause him to make the choices that he does. He was a very well rounded character and I feel in love with him as the MMC.🖤
Piper, the FMC, was unique in her own ways, but I didn’t get the same sense of knowing who she really is. I think if I had and there was maybe more description of why she connects with Massimo this would have been a 5-star read for me. The switch from cold to hot for her was too quick without much explanation and I think it would have hit harder with more insight into her thoughts.☺️
I did, however, love them together. There were many twists and turns in this organized crime world that I really enjoyed. The setting and the world that West creates definitely draws the reader in and makes you really care about the characters. 🫢
If you are into mafia romance, you should definitely give this one a read. It’s a great quick romance read!🥀

Our main MMC's were a solid power couple in this mafia romance. And being a Chicago suburbanite I loved it being in my city!
The pace felt a bit fast for me (insta-love) though, and characters' decisions hurried. I barely got to know Massimo and he decides within minutes of seeing Piper that he's going to have her and manipulate her into his life. It seems very brash for what should be a very calculating, careful man since he juggles being Police Chief in Chicago and head of a crime organization. In the first 20 pages he describes how stressful and consuming these facades are, yet immediately wants to seduce her.
Piper seems a very typically innocent but work driven FMC. She gives into Massimo's advances at the bar when they meet the first time so easily which seems hard to believe from what at first seems to be a strong Heroine.
Descriptions felt a bit repetitive and I didn't fully get a feel for the movements, the spacial awareness, ticks during the introductions. I wanted to connect to them. But I just wasn't feeling the urgency of a drama gripping me quite as much as I hoped.
But if you lean more towards insta love, then this is your jam!

Massimo & Piper
A police chief, a mafia boss and a journalist. It’s not a common subject in the mafia romance world. A mob boss who serves his country in more ways than just getting the bad guys. I liked the fact that there was this dual side to Massimo. It’s a fast paced story that’s got all the right elements to keep you hooked. The mafia world and it’s shenanigans, betrayal, torture, revenge, danger and ruthlessness is well represented. As well as an extremely fierce, strong, independent, no nonsense FMC that’s got a fire inside of her so strong that it makes grown men drop their jaws. She’s a woman with an open mind, yet a dark soul that has no problems jumping into the shadows and making them her own.
Massimo is your typical alpha male with possessive and obsessive features, but also a man who isn't afraid to step aside and let Piper take power into her own hands and cheer her on while doing so. He doesn't feel intimidated by her or what she's capable of.
If I need to describe them it would be “Power Couple”. A force to be reckoned with. Alone they are great, together they are fire.
I loved all the side characters and how attached you get to them along the way. As well as the strong family bonds, the love they have for each other.
There were some great surprises and plot twists I didn’t see coming but made it all the better.
But, you have to love an insta love and love at first sight theme to enjoy this book. If that’s not your thing you shouldn’t jump in or keep it at mind at least.

Piper Reynolds is a fierce investigative journalist, but after digging into the police Chief a bit too deep, she's pulled into the dark underworld under the Lombardi's control.
But Massimo Lombardi won't be the only one playing the captor.
this Mafia romance is sexy and spicy, and full of surprises from both characters. I was captivated by the workings of the underworld. I always love Mafia romances for the peek behind curtains of an authors eyes and @ashleejwest did not disappoint!

The descriptive writing in this had me picturing every scene with such clarity it was like a movie roll in my brain 🎥, the world building, plot, scene setting, the spice was all written so well!

Massimo’s dominance and control, met with Piper’s determination and curiosity could come together to make a sinfully delicious recipe or crumble like a soufflé. But you’ll have to figure that out by reading this book, which is so good you’ll be sad when it’s over.

Either Piper is the smartest person on earth or Massimo did very little to hide his identity because how did she put 2 and 2 together and came up with 4 when no one else was able to do the math.
I just couldn't really buy Massimo as such a crime boss that's so particular and so precise yet still your identity was so easy to figure out a toddler could've uncovered it.
Unfortunately this just stuck with me and as a result I couldn't really get in to the book

A good read, I enjoyed the character progression, and how the relationship evolved between Massimo & Piper. It was head first into action from the very beginning.
The writing style was quite formal, and took a little getting used to, but I found myself enjoying the story as it went on.
It had a good storyline, and I enjoyed the twists!
The Mafia element is always a win for me too.

The Enigma of Chicago known as Massimo also happens to be the police chief. This mafia romance is insta love at its finest. Piper, our hard core investigative journalist discovers Massimo’s secrets. This power couple uncovers deadly secrets and reveals corruption. The dynamics between these two burns hot. A few plot twist got me but absolutely loved the ending.

This does include the pregnancy trope fyi. She's a fiesty FMC who can hold her own. A good, dark mafia romance, MF, good spice and d talk iykyk.

I really enjoyed this book. I be loving side characters in books lately. Especially when they’re written in a very lovable way. I love Massimo and Piper’s relationship. This is an insta lust/love, fast-paced type of book but still a pretty good read.

It was a good story. However, I felt like the writing style was much too formal for the style of story.
Please don't get me wrong, I did like the plot, and Ashlee is a good writer! The writing and language style just felt out of place for a dark mafia romance that takes place in the U.S., and I struggled with that quite a bit.
I also would have loved a little more complexity to the conflicts between the mafia families. Not that revenge for the family isn't a great reason for conflict, I just would have like more there. Overall, I liked the book, I just struggled with a couple of elements.
