Featuring the talents
Rob M. Miller, Phil Hickes. Lisamarie Lamb, Blaise Torrance, Delphine Boswell,Donald Jacob Uitvlugt, Edward Medina, Lisa McCourt Hollar Steven Gepp,J.G. Williams, Adam Millard Stacey Turner, Blaze McRob
Stacey Turner lives in West Central Illinois with her husband. Three wonderful, adult children call her “Mom,” and three beautiful little boys call her “Mimi” (Grandma). She is owned by cats. She spends her days writing and editing, but still finds time to review books & interview authors, as well as blog about her absolutely ridiculous family and other adventures.
She enjoys editing because she’s bossy. And also because she revels in helping an author polish their work. She has edited several anthologies, such as Fairly Wicked Tales and Fifty Shades of Decay, as well as many novels & novellas for a variety of authors. To contact her about editing, you can email her at princess.spot@gmail.com.
She has been published in several anthologies and online magazines. Most recently in Grimm Mistresses by Ragnarok Publications.
When not working, she enjoys photographing cemeteries, playing “what if,” and discussing the imminent zombie apocalypse. She does not enjoy scarecrows, creepy dolls, birds (of any sort), snakes, clowns, or garden gnomes.
Having already edited two other collections in the Satan's Toybox anthology series, Toy Soldiers and Demonic Dolls, it was a matter of when, not if, there would be one featuring those soft, cuddly teddies that keep our young ones company and help to put them to bed at night. These are NOT those bears, at least you better hope they're not.
Actually, I take some of that back, a few of the bears actually look out for their little wards, but even those teddies are the things of nightmares.
Terrifying Teddies begins with a nice wrap-around story from Rob M. Miller. By that, I mean "Mr. Twinx" starts and ends the anthology. It's a story that has a light feel to it, almost as light as the cotton candy young Annabelle smells outside of the ultra exclusive invitation only toy store she has come to visit. I actually learned a new word in this tale. It's arctophile - A person who collects or is very fond of teddy bears.
The writers in this collection are all accomplished and good at their craft, even though most of their names were unfamiliar to me. There are some stand-out stories, but all of them deliver, coming at the theme from many different directions.
Terrifying Teddies is available now from Angelic Knight Press in both print and ebook formats and from a variety of retailers. If you still sleep with your teddie, this one might not be for you, but if you'd rather cuddle up with a collection of scary stories, then add this one to your library today.
I absolutely love original anthologies, especially when they are based in the horror genre. Last month, Angelic Knight Press published a treasure-trove of unique and mesmerizing stories in the latest edition of its Satan’s Toybox series, TERRIFYING TEDDIES. The tales in this collection are excellent forays into darkness, and each will make you think twice about sleeping with a teddy bear.
I have to admit that the concept of this book is what initially drove me to read it. The idea of making something so lovable and cherished an instrument of evil thrilled me. And I am not disappointed in the least. Every story in this collection is written well and offers an interesting premise.
I am impressed with the amount of horror that is crammed into these short stories. TERRIFYING TEDDIES is exactly that: terrifying. There are scenes in here that will make you chunk your teddy bear into the fireplace (you don’t want to throw it away because it might crawl out of the trash and come after you!). And there are even a couple of stories that will make you think.
One of my favorites is “Bobo” by Steven Gepp. In this story, a young man returns to the scene of a horrendous childhood crime, only to find his long lost teddy bear. Unfortunately, the bear is not happy at having been abandoned. This tale is very well written and projects an insane sense of terror into its ending.
Another favorite is “The Woods Today” by Lisamarie Lamb. This one tells the story of two children that venture into the woods despite warnings, where they come across a scene not meant for human eyes. Like “Bobo”, this story leaves an uncomfortable pit in your stomach after its over.
My sole complaint about the collection is that one of the stories, “Edward” by J.G. Williams, confused me; I reread it three times but still could not fathom its meaning. Perhaps I am looking at it the wrong way, but something about it just did not click within my brain.
Still, TERRIFYING TEDDIES is an amazing anthology and it belongs on every horror fan’s bookshelf. Whether you like teddy bears or not, these cringe-inducing tales will have you doubting your sanity and checking behind your back as you walk down the hall. I highly recommend this collection and suggest you pick it up ASAP.
