Faerie is a beautifully magical realm, full of Fae and Yōkai that do not like things that are different. And I’m a Fae that was born different. Under the watchful eye of my House Matron, I managed to make it into my second century without being discovered, but Faerie is changing again, and things that were once secret are being brought into the light.
The secret I was born with would be deadly enough if it was ever brought to the surface of Faerie’s chaos, but the one I accidentally found that belongs to a dead queen, will certainly be the end of me if it ever gets free. My choices are starting to look rather slim if I plan to survive, and if I don’t do something fast, both secrets will be out before I’m able to save myself.
As a nomad and child of the Moon, I love adventure and immersing myself in other cultures. I am from nowhere, and yet everywhere. Where I can not get to physically, I read, to journey there through the eyes of those who have been and experienced the wonders of our world, and worlds beyond.
Enjoyable well written captivating story, with an unexpected romance. Good strong characters, Niamh was born magicless, and her mum helped hide this, or she would be killed for being weak. It's Niamhs journey that we follow her perspective and the daemons. It left on a cliffhanger, which I can't wait to see what happens next.
I absolutely loved this. A new author for me and I am hooked. The author has some great characters and the story takes place in one of my all time favorite places, Faerie. The story is clever and the plot is captivating. Lady Geoc gave birth to a daughter that had no magic. She knew that she would have to keep this secret no matter the cost. At first Niamh lived a normal life. She had her studies & attended parties with her mother. When she was in her 20's and started interacting more with other fae, her mother would enchant jewelry and other trinkets with trigger activated spells so it appeared had magic. Niamh focused on making jewelry and fashion design becaue that was her passion. This caused nobles to notice her talents and her designs became popular. She would create them and her mother helped enchant them. When she was approached by the queen for something special, she was pleased. The queen wanted something to aid her in breathing under water so she could visit the kelpies. The queen took Niamh to a room in the castle that she had never been in. It was full of magical items with everything from scrolls, crystals and many other interesting items. The queen said she could have access to the room but could only craft items for her or the king but knowledge she gained could be used to help her in her designs. Niamh was thrilled and she couldn't wait to get started. When she was investigating the room she accidentally opened a secret room hidden behind a wall. A voice that chilled her spoke. She was frightened and fled. However, curiosity got the better of her and she went back. As she started conversations with the voice, she learned he was a demon and not from faerie. He had been trapped for a very long time and wanted to go home. Niamh had no idea how to break the spell that held him and she didn't want to have him loose in faerie. She developed a sort of friendship with him. She would visit whenever she could but her mother wanted to introduce her to suitors she had picked for her. This idea had no appeal to her at all. Then when Niamh was attacked, the demons rage of this made Niamh realize she would need to be very careful with him. He was clever, dark and terrifying. She was not terrified of him. She found him fascinating. Her attempts at trying to keep him in place took her on a journey that was filled with betrayel, magic, danger and risk of severe punishment for finding him and not telling the queen. A fascinating story for anyone who likes Fae, magic ans Demons.
This was a good book definitely a page turner it kept me wanting to know what was going to happen next. The way they treated the MFC made me sooo mad but the fact that the MMC made her feel special made up for it! I can’t wait to see what happens next!
This is a spinoff from The Faerie Tales series. It consists of a ring, a finder, a owner, and the darkness connected to it. Of course, this causes chaos in the realms.
Well told story, romance fantasy that delivers the message of being your true self even when that is not the easiest option. All around a very pretty, inside & out, MC who needed their story told. I’ve enjoyed discovering Sharrow’s novels.
I loved this story!!! Niamh is such a smart fae with an insatiable thirst for knowledge.
Although her mother started out as someone I liked it quickly turned and I was very pleased with her story line
Daemon is an interesting creature and I very much enjoyed his and Niamh’s story
I’m excited to learn this is the beginning of a new series within the same realm as Faerie Tales and I highly recommend you reading that series along with this story.
I greatly enjoyed this book, the writing was brilliant and engaging, and the characters were well written. I really liked the use of Gaelic and Latin to represent the different languages, and the glossary at the back was really helpful (and I found myself consulting it regularly)
The wording in some parts got a little confusing, as well as the fact that Niamh ends up having about 6 different names/nicknames, however I am eager to read the next book in the series! The extra chapter at the end made it a complete story in itself but also allowed the series to continue
I loved this novella. It’s a great start to a new series and I’m excited to see where it goes. The addition of the new world was fantastic.
The first 60% was incredible but I felt that the last 40% was rushed and I would have loved to see that part of the story fleshed out more. This could have easily been a full length novel.
I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see how this new conflict develops.
Nia is one brave Fae! Born into a magical realm to only be able to study it and watch others use it for their own gain. Given the chance she only wants to learn more about the art she has no access to. However, once she gets a taste of a different kind of curiosity it is unlike her to turn away from it. This adventure is one of self-discovery and perseverance. Betrayal and intrigue. Because when Nia uncovers the skeleton buried in this dusty closet she is unlikely to step away from its shadow. I too would find it hard to turn away from this Daemon who finds himself attracted to the light. I highly recommend anything by T.R. Sharrow her darker take on the realm of Faerie is unlike any I have found before.
