Crossing Lines
(The Salvation of Tempestria Book 8)

MY NAME IS ARSHES MEGANE AND I AM IMMORTAL.

How many lines do you cross when trying to save lives?

A thousand years after the Guardians of Time and Magic saved Tempestria from an Angel, the Guardianship is broken. Only Mandalee remains and after centuries of peace, the world no longer cares.

But Tempestria’s swirling void storms are living up to their name. No longer just pretty lights in the sky, they trigger devastating hurricanes, quakes, fires and floods, and the death toll is rising by the day.

Now, there’s a Monster on the loose with chaotic powers that can destroy Time itself, and one True Guardian is not enough.
To save the world, Arshes Megane is driven to break the rules, leading to her dangerous gamble of an Illegal Time Intervention.

Are her actions justified, or will she cross one line too many?

This is the story of The Salvation of Tempestria, as told by an immortal girl from the future using an Illegal Time Intervention to save the world…or possibly end it.

The first FOUR books in my Salvation of Tempestria series - Shifting Stars, Gathering Storm, Shadows Fall and Fragmented Control - are now permafree.

For anyone interested in my earlier work, the Majaos Trilogy may also be found at that same site. Majaos trilogy.

While studying for my B.Sc. in Chemistry, I met a friend who introduced me to fantasy fiction, especially TSR, AD&D type books. Despite all I've read since, that remains my frame of reference for the fantasy genre.

My Salvation of Tempestria of Series, beginning with Shifting Stars is rooted in a updated version of that kind of fantasy world. But it's just 1 world within a wider sci-fi/fantasy universe and the story is told by an immortal girl from the future with a plan to save the world...or possibly end it.

MY NAME IS ARSHES MEGANE AND I AM IMMORTAL.

That’s a nifty and attention getting opening line!

I can honestly say I’ve never read anything like this. It is a unique mixture of fantasy, magic, and time manipulation(?) set more or less in a modern period (actually lots of them).

So Arshes is a girl (another significant point) and can use time as a tool, like magic and must fend off mind boggling foes and events across immense spans of existence.

Admittedly, I am not an authority in fantasy as it’s not my usual genre and I’m coming in late in the series, but this was both baffling and entertaining. The whole concept of manipulating time certainly made for an interesting read. And at 600 plus pages, there's a lot to take in!

Crossing Lines, by Gary Stringer, is Book 8 of The Salvation of Tempestria series.

It’s the first one I’ve read, and for someone who grew up on the more linear time-travelling tales of H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine and the Back to the Future franchise, this story swept me along on a completely unpredictable helter-skelter time ride with endless unexpected plots twists and turns with seemingly limitless possibilities from a clearly rich imagination. It’s a fast-moving fusion of epic fantasy, time travel and elements of sci-fi.

All delivered through the first-person, girl-next-door lens of our heroine, Arshes Megane – a girl, quite literally, for the ages. She doesn't suffer fools, yet her inner voice reveals insecurities and uncertainties which endear her to us despite her millennium-spanning immortality. She offers a constant red thread of humanity through myriad complex time-bending (and often mind-boggling) scenarios. Yet we are always kept on track by the author’s neat trick of discreetly breaking the fourth wall and adding a timely note or explanation or personal muse directly to us, the ‘gentle reader’. This helps navigate the whirlwind of directional changes and avalanche of time-travelling terminology. A great fun read.

This is a well-written fantasy that has a flair of sci-fi. The story delves into magic, alternate dimensions, and even time itself. The story’s magic comes across with a hint of Dungeons & Dragons and is artfully presented. The characters and plotline are real and engaging. Overall, the book is quite unique and worth a read.

Great read!
A fun blend of sci fi and fantasy. Also unique. Arshes battles monsters as she manipulates time and different dimensions and uses magic. There’s cool monsters, fights, and unexpected twists and sacrifices. Lots of action and adventure. Great read overall!
