For the last 13 years, Susie has been teaching yoga to adults and Zumba Gold dance to seniors. She considers herself a "body mechanic", teaching people how to use their core muscles and improve posture, reduce aches and pains, prevent falls, sustain positive thinking and renewed energy. She wrote Balance for Seniors to help others understand aging and provide exercises to develop the core, gain flexibility, and stability at all ages. She co-wrote with husband of 40+ years, Dr. Ken Vanderlip - EMDR expert and consultant, two other books for helping others live their best lives: "Self-Care for Mental Health" and "EMDR Phase 2 Resourcing Tools" for therapists. Together, they give webinars and speak at conferences on these subjects to reduce burnout, relieve stress, increase resiliency and healthy choices.
Previously, Susie spent 25 years touring across the United States and Canada and reaching over one million youth and adults. She presented her original one-woman theatrical/dance presentation LEGACY OF HOPE® as an assembly at middle schools and high schools, and a keynote at conferences for youth and adults. LEGACY OF HOPE® is a high-impact program that creates awareness and hope for children from alcoholic, drug-addicted, abusive and neglectful families. She helps youth and adults understand the deep emotional wounds that motivate youth to make destructive choices; and she motivates youth and adults to reach out and ask for help.
In her book 52 Ways to Protect Your Teen, Susie shares great insights into these youth and family concerns.
In April 2010, she had a ruptured appendix that slowed her to a snail's pace and put her in her garden for 7 weeks. It was then that she first observed her first Monarch caterpillar, it's amusing habits, it's amazing transition into a chrysalis and it's stunning birth as a butterfly. It so moved her to see how even in nature, life has struggles, dangers, vulnerability and miraculous triumph! It moved her to begin writing her children's books and producing her children's videos.
