I don't know why I keep buying Word Biblical Commentaries. I think somewhere in my subconscious I remember them being helpful for writing exegetical papers in Seminary. The format of these books squeezes otherwise helpful scholars into boring reflections on grammatical minutiae, while leaving a few scant paragraphs for theological and pastoral reflection. There is not much in this commentary you cannot get from using Logos or Bibleworks software, and homilectical help is few and far between. I've appreciated Leslie Allen in other places, but I fear the Word series obscures even his insights.
