Christopher Scott, a.k.a. Crisco, follows up his first memoir with his high school days where he meets and literally falls head over heels with his one and only true love, Mark, while competing in a wrestling match.
“…I decided to let him win because I wanted him to know I was ready for him to pin me down whenever he wanted.”
We’re going further back into Crisco’s past. In this story, we learn that Crisco is originally “from a small town outside of Kansas City, Misery.”
Mark Gorman is Crisco’s first, and only, love.
Crisco originally played football in high school (because he likes contact). But once he sees the wrestling team in action, he drops football immediately and takes up wrestling. On a deeper dive, though, it’s not just the sport of wrestling, it’s seeing Mark in action. And Mark’s unusual “tactics.”
Crisco’s written speech and vernacular are incredibly genuine.
Mark attends a different school, but it’s one that’s nearby. The guys do eventually wrestle each other…and that’s how they develop their connection.
Very honest and heartfelt—this feels more like a confession than a memoir. If these aren’t true stories, I’d be shocked.
“It ain’t easy to write about him. It still kinda hurts when I think about it too much.”
