Personal, but not in-your-face here's-my-junk, My Broken Path Toward Wholeness is just as it is billed: a wisdom memoir. Mr. Frye's story is interesting, but he has withheld the juiciest details of his life so as not to draw unnecessary attention to himself. Instead, he consistently points his story toward God and His intervention in his life, drawing Mr. Frye closer to Him. In this way, My Broken Path Toward Wholeness challenged my faith and encouraged me to walk closer to God as I learned about Mr. Frye's journey.
Each chapter is short, and at the conclusion of each chapter is a set of discussion/thought questions that are truly thought-provoking. There are three levels of questions: coffee cup, wisdom, and application. Each level suits different discussion group needs, and each set is a winner. In this way, Mr. Frye invites readers not only into his journey, but into their own journey as well.
My Broken Path Toward Wholeness doesn't take long to read but is insightful, encouraging, and fruitful to read. Enjoy the journey - Mr. Frye's and yours - and come away with a greater appreciation for our wonder-working God.
The book tells his story from childhood in a broken home to teenager doing drugs and getting drunk to ending up in prison and finally finding Jesus. Becoming a missionary then having a broken marriage then remarried. His story shows how God Perseus is even when we don’t realize it. I think a lot of people will benefit from reading this book and realizing that if they turn to Him God is always there waiting for you and ready to heal your life.
This is one of those books that make you realize that people are going through issues. This is a life story of a broken boy navigating life up to adulthood. A broken family, a broken young person, imprisoned and having to start afresh with a criminal record.
He goes on to find Jesus and becomes a missionary, facing various challenges including sickness and divorce.
I am not particularly religious, but this extraordinarily honest account of addiction, crime and despair, and the means by which they were overcome carried a tremendous emotional power that endures long after reading. A journey full of self-questioning that stays with you.
