Starting Over with Her One-Night Mistake

Rate this book
Five years ago, it was just supposed to be one perfect night...
No names. No promises. Just sun-soaked bliss.

Brienne never expected to see the man from that unforgettable night again. These days, she’s focused on her future, launching her own interior design firm, and staying far away from anything—or anyone—that could derail her plans.

Until he walks through the door.

Daxton has spent the last two years raising his daughter and restoring old homes, using work to outrun the grief of losing his wife. A lucrative new contract could finally make his dream property a reality, but the project comes with one surprise he didn’t plan for: the interior designer is the woman he’s never been able to forget.

Now, Brienne and Daxton are working side-by-side, transforming historic houses while trying to ignore the chemistry that still simmers between them. A shared antique auction, late-night renovations, and unexpected moments with Daxton’s daughter slowly dismantle the distance Brienne worked so hard to build.

As feelings resurface and the past collides with the present, Brienne must decide if she’s brave enough to take a second chance on the man—and the future—she never expected.

Starting Over with Her One-Night Mistake is a steamy small-town romance featuring a one-night stand turned second chance, a widowed single dad, forced proximity, and a love story designed—and built—to last. It’s the second book in the Starting Over Trilogy, but can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Please note that some characters may overlap in each other’s stories, so reading them in order is recommended if you plan to read the series.

Heat Level - (5) Steamy: Multiple sex scenes described in explicit detail. Moderate intimacy. Sexual tension. Moderate-to-strong language.

This story contains no cheating and guarantees a happily-ever-after ending that is sure to satisfy. Coming June 29th, 2025, exclusively to Amazon (including Kindle Unlimited). (The first book in this series, Starting Over with Her Billionaire Boss, is available now.)

I enjoyed the fighting temptation between the main characters. I loved watching their love grow bigger than just a fling. Oh, and the little girl stole my heart.

I love a good single daddy romance soooo much.

Daxton and Bree meet while on vacation after she goes through a breakup. When she enters a bar, Daxton notices her immediately and they end up sharing a night together. Bree leaves before he wakes up as she doesn't want anything to be awkward even though she really wants to stay. When Daxton wakes, he is also disappointed to find Bree gone.

5 years later Bree is working on building up her Design business and working on Victorian home renovations and when she is introduced to the new contractor, she recognizes him from her one night stand and vice versa, but neither mentions their one night together. Daxton is now a single parent to a cute little girl who instantly becomes attached to Bree. These two don't mention they knew one another from that night but work well together and the attraction is still there. While Bree never thought she had any maternal instincts, she develops a motherly instinct where Daxton's daughter is concerned and I love watching their relations flourish so easily. The tree of them are not bothered when they are out in the community and they are mistakenly thought of and complimented on what a beautiful family they were. The chemistry is still there, but Daxton's only wants to work on the homes to save his money to purchase land in Montana like he and his deceased wife planned before she died. Bree didn't want to start anything because of past relationships not working out and she felt like she was always left behind. When Daxton's tells her he is buying land, all her insecurities arise and she decides she needs to keep things professional with Daxton since he is not sticking around. I loved this heartwarming story and always love when the one that got away somehow ends up back in your life. My only issue is how they chose to not talk about their one night 5 years ago... that was a little childish in my opinion.

Starting Over with Her One-Night Mistake is book two in the Starting Over Trilogy and it is the story of Brienne and Daxton. This book is a steamy, small town, second chance, single dad, forced proximity romance with a love story that is designed and built to last.

Five years ago, Brienne and Daxton shared one perfect night together, no name, no promises, just enjoy each other and then walk away. Now, Brienne is launching her own interior design firm and is trying to avoid any distractions that could derail her plans.

Daxton has spent the last several years caring for his daughter, attempting to outrun the grief of his wife's death and restoring old homes. A lucrative new contract could finally make his dream property a reality but the project comes with one surprise he never saw coming, the woman from his past that he has never forgotten.

Working together on this project was never their plan, nor was attempting to ignore the intense chemistry they both still share. Late night renovations, shared moments with his daughter and an antique auction begin to make Brienne and Daxton see that what they shared five years ago was not a fluke but can Brienne breakdown her walls and see the possibility of a future with Daxton?

The chemistry between Brienne and Daxton is so absolutely steamy and the way that Natasha wrote the progression of their relationship and gave it the time it needed to flourish. There was such an emotional connection between the characters and the HEA was well earned and deserved. I highly recommend this book to all romance lovers who love a great storyline, amazing characters with funny and spicy moments.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

The second book in the Starting Over Trilogy is another hit for Natasha Dubois. Starting Over With Her One Night Mistake follows Brienne and Daxton, who met 5 years earlier at a vacation resort. They share one night of steamy passion - no names - no contact information - before Brienne sneaks off to catch her flight.

Fast forward 5 years. Brienne is a successful interior designer and Daxton is a successful contractor. By chance, they are paired together to renovate historic New England homes. Also, Daxton is now a widower with a 2 year old daughter named Olivia. After the initial shock of seeing each other again, they play it cool and try to make the best of their new working relationship. But it doesn’t take long for their undeniable attraction to resurface.

This is where the book blossoms, and it's about so much more than what happened 5 years earlier. These are complex characters, written with so much emotion and care. Daxton is raising his daughter while trying to honor the memory of his late wife. Brienne wants to follow her heart, but she also must protect it. They are both healing in different ways, yet similarly paralyzed by their fear of the unknown and of getting hurt. Can they be brave enough to let down their guard and experience love again?

This book is not overly spicy (but what's there is "chef's kiss"). While this beautiful love story primarily focuses on Daxton and Brienne, watching the mother/daughter bond develop between Olivia and Brienne is also heart warming. By the end, it’s impossible not to root for this family's happily ever after.

If you delve in, make sure to get the bonus chapter because it brings everything full circle. After this, I’m definitely looking forward to the 3rd book in the series!

✨This book gave me so many feels. It’s a quiet, tender kind of second-chance romance that builds slowly but beautifully like the historic homes Brienne and Daxton are tasked with restoring.🏠

💕Brienne and Daxton had one unforgettable night years ago—no names, no strings🔥. Fast forward to the present, and surprise! He’s her newest client… and the chemistry? Still very much there❤️‍🔥. What I loved most about this book was how grounded it felt.🫠These aren’t reckless, impulsive characters, they’re two adults with complicated pasts, trying to do right by their futures (and, in Daxton’s case, his daughter too).🥹

🫶🏽Watching these two navigate shared spaces, both literal and emotional, was such a satisfying experience.❤️‍🩹Their chemistry felt real but never rushed, and the scenes with Daxton’s daughter added a lovely softness to balance the deeper emotional undercurrents🥰.

⭐️If you enjoy mature second chances, single dads, and emotional slow burns with a dash of home renovation charm, this one definitely deserves a spot on your TBR.🙌🏽

Thank you to the Author Natasha Dubois and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this ARC!🩵

Starting Over with Her One-Night Mistake is Book 2 of the Starting Over Trilogy. It's a steamy, forced-proximity, instalove with a slow-burn vibe, one-night stand to more, second-chance, girl gets her single dad office romance. Brienne is an interior designer who is trying to build her company. Daxton is a hunky widower, single dad, and contractor. Daxton and Brienne had an anonymous, hot,one-night stand five years ago. Now, they end up working together on a restoration project. The chemistry is still there but they never really acknowledge the past which was a little weird to me. That being said, these two had insane chemistry, I loved Brienne's interactions with the daughter, and we got a great HEA after some drama and angst. I just wanted them to communicate! This was my first book by this author but not the last.

This book surprised me in the best way - I do like a single dad trope but I am personally not that interested in renovations and that kind of plots, but I did enjoy this and I liked the work aspect of the book.

This book made me laugh, blush and even cry, but it was worth every tear and every smile, because the ending is sooo wholesome in every way!

I liked both Daxton and Brie as characters, they both have scars and open wounds that impacts them in their path of finding love and building their future.
They do have some set backs which feel sooo real giving their backgrounds. And the parts about loss and greif is handled with such care and respect.

Olivia will always have my heart, she’s just adorable and I love everything about her!😍

Lastly I want to thank Natasha and her team for giving me the opportunity to read this as an ARC in change of my honest opinion!

I absolutely loved Starting Over with Her One-Night Mistake! What began as a one-night stand between Brie and Daxton turns into an unexpected second chance at love—years later, with life and priorities completely changed.

Their chemistry is off the charts from the start, but what really hooked me was how their relationship grew naturally through time, trust, and real-life challenges. It’s not just a single-dad meets designer romance—it’s deeper, with emotional layers and a connection that feels earned.

Natasha Dubois weaves in themes of renovation and restoration that perfectly mirror the characters’ emotional journeys. It’s heartwarming, funny, and tear-jerking in all the best ways. Highly recommend if you love romances that feel both swoony and sincere!

I voluntarily reviewed this after receiving a complimentary copy. Brienne and Daxton shared an unforgettable night, no names, while on vacation in Mexico. Brienne sneaks out early the next morning. Five years later, Brienne is an interior designer on a project to renovate historic New England homes when she sees Daxton. Daxton is the contractor working on the project. He is a single dad to 2-year-old Olivia; he lost his wife Kate the year before. Daxton and Brienne have not forgotten their night together, but Brienne's walls are built high because of past hurts, and Daxton is still grieving. They have grown closer as they spend time together, and Brienne falls for little Olivia. Will Daxtong and Brienne take their second chance?

This book surprised me. I knew the general premise going in. What I didn’t know was the emotional journey this book was going to take me on. It’s not only a story about second chances and starting over; but about grief and loss and healing. The author did an amazing job of writing about all of these topics in a very real, honest and respectful way. I laughed, cried, swooned, and even healed a little myself reading this book. Brienne and Daxton were amazing main characters, and I loved them so much, but honestly, Olivia stole the show. She was a tiny little ray of sunshine. This book was incredible, and I’m really looking forward to the next one!

Brienne and Daxton met five years ago and had an amazing night together. They didn’t share names or anything, just had a great night with each other.

Now Brienne is an interior designer and Daxton walks into her office because he is renovating old historic houses and needs help with the project. While they work together old chemistry shows up and they start to see how things would be if they were together.

Loved this second chance romance.

Sparks fly when Daxton and Brienne reconnect 5 years after their one night stand, while both on vacation. They've been paired up to renovate some homes for Brie's friend who are opening a B&B. She's a designer and Daxton a contractor. But things are a little more complicated this time, as Daxton is a widower now with an adorable show stealing 2 year old.

I was given a free ARC from Hidden Gems with the promise of an honest review.

Brie and Daxton have a one-night stand in Mexico. Five years later, they meet again. She is single and he is a single dad with a 2-year-old. They have to work together on the same project. This is a story of interesting interactions. It is a story of deciding to protect or to risk your heart. It is a story of possibly starting over. A good romantic read.

This is the second book in the Starting Over series and I’ve really enjoyed both! The author does a great job at descriptive writing. Once again I felt like I was living in Trueport with the characters! I quickly got submersed in the story, the renovations and the love story taking place. Aunt Tilly is once again a favorite character of mine. She’s quirky and it’s a fun way to foreshadow the future. My favorite part of the story was Daxton’s daughter, Olivia. You can tell the author has a daughter because it was so descriptive and cute and loving. She’s the perfect thing to bring the two characters together again!

In regard to spice, I’d say this is like 3 🌶️🌶️🌶️. There’s not many scenes but the ones there are really well written!!

Overall, I love Natasha Dubois’ writing and characters. I love how she transports me to a different town and takes my mind off my real-life problems. Her stories are quick, easy, feel-good reads and I can’t wait for the 3rd in the series!! I was giving and ARC copy to review this story and these are my real thoughts on it! ☺️

Such a sweet story! I'm a sucker for second chances and this did not disappoint! Daxton and Brienne have off the charts chemistry! Add in sweet Olivia and it's the recipe for a beautiful family.
Not a ton of spice, but the story certainly made up for it.
Thank you, Natasha, for the opportunity to read this sweet story!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
🌶️🌶️🌶️

Tropes:
* small town
* forced proximity
* Alpha Male
* Co- workers

I couldn’t put this book down I was hooked from the very start to the end of the book. I loved the story line throughout the whole book. I love a good small town romance this book certainly delivered it. The main characters brienne and Dexaton being to work on a project for Briennes friend Kingsley ( if you haven’t read the first one in this series I recommend to read that as well). Brienne didn’t know that the contractor who she would be working along side was going to be her one night stand from many years ago. Dexaton has a little girl who takes to Bri quickly. You could feel the tension coming off the pages between the two main characters and the spice was spicy 🥵. I loved seeing both Dexaton and Bri’s grow as individuals and over some there fears. But my favourite part was watching them grow together. I loved how Dexaton remembered every thing Bri said. I loved how Bri wouldn’t care at 2am when Dexaton would call and ask if she could come over as his little girl was asking for her to scare the monsters away.
