“We call ourselves The Family. We each have a part to play, but we also do our own thing.
Jack, the Hunter.
Everett, the Heir.
Azrael, the Ghost.
Greyson, the Teacher.
Beckett, the Uncle
Malachi, our Father.”
“If I were you, I’d stay off my radar, but if you do happen to find yourself feeling the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end, well, it’s already too late. I’ve found you. You’re mine. Welcome to The Family.”
First off, I’m a huge fan of “the family” opening, prior to the prologue. I think it really sets the tone.
I loved the storyline for this and the mystery behind everything really sucked me in. I really liked Rae. At first, some of her behavior annoyed me a little, but it makes a lot of sense later in the story and fits perfectly. Overall, I liked Jack, but I definitely didn’t like chunks of his behavior in this story. I also think he went from “I don’t care if I humiliate you in front of anyone and everyone (not a quote)” to “I love you so much and will defend you against the world! (Also not a quote)”, way too quickly. It was literally a couple pages in between each, so it was a little jarring. He was very back and forth in my head until around 75%. I would say this would have been a 5 star read if Jack wasn’t such a POS for large parts of the book. And to clarify, I like MMCs that give a little degradation and such in the bedroom. This was not that. It was in front of others and I don’t like the disrespect of it. Funny enough, Azrael was my favorite in this and I’m so excited for his book. I love me a good psychopath with religious trauma. That ghost can haunt me anytime.
Heads up it ends in a cliff hanger in regards to the underlying mystery, but not in regards to the HFN between the MCs, in case you’re the type that wants to wait for the full series to come out.
Random notes from my read: CAUTION, THESE CAN BE CONSIDERED SPOILERY⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
- I know we haven’t heard much about him yet, but I’m stoked for Azrael’s book. I get the feeling he’s going to be my kind of crazy. He just screams “I’ve got religious trauma and I’m not afraid to use it”.
- I LOVE that she likes monster toys. That’s amazing and I don’t think I’ve ever seen an FMC that does.
- Am I the only one who is ridiculously excited for Azeael’s eventual book? We’ve seen like 2.5 seconds of him in this one and in Greyson’s book, but holy shit I can just feel the crazy ooze off him. It’s hot
- Malachi feels very shady to me. I can’t really put my finger on it, but I felt the same way in greyson’s book. I was 100% expecting him to do something f*cked up in that book
- Man, I’m so fascinated as to wtf is going on. Also, the carnival tent scene was HOT
- Scars???
- What. The. F.
- Dang, is she Salt?
- Jesus, Zo is kind of a c*nt. I was hoping to like the sisters. Her comment was just catty mean girl behavior. She’s the one being rude to Rae in her own home
- Also, I find it a little f*cked that he and Zo had sex. Seems very conflict of interesty, since the sisters’ role is to kind of keep the brothers in line. Can’t really do that if you’re sleeping with, essentially, your assignment
- He just has Zo waiting out there for him to force Rae into going back out to be humiliated again? wtf. And Zo has the audacity to side eye her? Let me repeat, THEY are in RAE’S home. Girl, GTFO
- What the actual f, Zo?
- I kind of hate Jack. The under the table scene? Zero respect for her at all. He says not to disrespect him in front of his family? Again, THEY ARE IN HER HOME.
- Back door stuff with no prep work??
- Azrael….honey….ill support all your rights and alllll your wrongs
