July 17, 2025dnf 25%. I just wasnt a fan of the direction the series has been starting to take. The books began to feel like a bit of a slog after around book 3 or so. It also didnt help that the author decided to make the MC a clueless idiot to facilitate explaining the narrative to the readers. For example, MC lucks into acquiring a legendary pet with options to choose its animal form. He mulls for days over which of the various forms would be best and asks everyone for advice at every turn. He finally chooses to make it a wolf. But then, only in the heat of battle, actually makes the more critical attribute point assignments to the pet that will actually determine the makeup of the legendary pet and its future potential. And instead of actually putting any thought into that particular subject, he simply averages out its stats while in the middle of a fight. Oh the MC also tends to forget to actually assign his own attribute point gains on several occasions too. Can anyone say IDIOT?

I received a review copy of this book.
The Turn of the Dead is book 6 in this series, and the story is pretty good for a zombie story. I'm typically not a fan of zombie stories, though there are exceptions, and I guess now, I have to add this one to that list as well. Surprisingly well done for a zombie story, though it helps that a player's action caused the problem, even though it was done accidentally. That makes for interesting reading to be sure. Looking forward to the next book in the series.
