It only took our bible study class 3 months to get through this short study. LOL We love to chat and this study made us very gabby. We watched the DVD and worked our way through the study guide. I still need to finish the book that goes with it, so I'm leaving it on my "currently reading" list until it's done. I'll review it along with the guide a bit better at The Zest Quest and repost here.

Max Lucado is one of my favorite spiritual writers because he makes sense, utilizing simple, and effective methods to get his point across.

The best part of this study is that it takes away the fear of prayer and makes it so simple that you'll do it more often. I highly recommend this to anyone who struggles with making prayer more consistent in their lives.

Very good and helpful for digging in deeper to prayer!
It's funny because the great Max Lucado starts off calling himself a "prayer wimp!"
Which speaks to many of us, we just think we don't pray enough, or correctly, or with variety, and so on and so on!
I know too many Christians that are even afraid to pray out loud for people or in front of a group, (raising hand myself), so my small group took notes from this book and practiced praying!

I highly recommend it if you feel stale in your prayers or uncomfortable praying for people! It is a must we step out of our comfort zone and step in to action! We are called to be strong and courageous, and bold! To pray with and for others. To pray without ceasing!! Ask and it will be given!

Max Lucado writes a powerful message in his Before Amen Bible Study Guide: The Power of a Simple Prayer. As Lucado pens that we need to enter prayer with a grateful heart and build on that to ask the father our desires. Using biblical passages, Lucado reminds us that our prayers should not be like that of the publican who is loud and overly flamboyant but humble. He also reminds readers that God hears common people just fine. This is an excellent read that should lead to good discussions among any group.

Excellent for small group discussions

Encouraging for small groups to discuss prayer - why were pray, when we pray, why we should pray, and why we should pray more often. We need more understanding and practice in this area!

I've never read Max Lucado, and I was a little disappointed that study was chosen for my Bible Study group. My disappointment grew when the first session (of 4 total) was about how we should refer to G-d as "daddy". Umm what about those of us Christians who do not view G-d as male??
But all that said his "quick prayer" I do use, but not with "father".
