Neat!

I really like the things she has put in her book. I would love to see more pictures in the book, as it can be confusing, but overall great.

Decent

The explanations are decent enough, however I think you need some experience with crocheting if you expect to fully understand and be able to follow the instructions. Luckily, I watched videos to help me, before reading this. If I hadn't, I would have been lost. This'd book could thrive better, in my opinion, if it had more photos/illustrations for the steps of each stitch.

My first crocheting projects were making clothes for my Barbie doll, about 40 years ago. Crocheting like knitting is a wonderful hobby for cool winter nights. The touching of soft yarn while creating something beautiful relaxes the mind. Recently having moved into a cooler area I thought I might check out a book, which shows me the latest techniques and styles. I am not into buying stuff from China, I prefer interesting, beautiful and unique pieces.

I could not have made a better choice than getting "How to crochet Vol 1" by Beatrice Crimbleton. Here is what makes this book exceptional: Once and for all it wipes out any association of crocheting and old fashioned doilies.
This book is modern and beautiful. I loved how the author states: "If you are here to learn how to crochet, you must also learn to treat yourself as a real artist..." That is indeed what it is. Crocheting is one of the simplest ways to create artsy clothing, tailored to one's personal liking, no piece alike.

This book takes crocheting into the 21 century. Beautiful illustrations of individual pieces make the reader want to start crocheting this minute. I loved the precious and creative gloves (location 16 and 24) and the various scarves. Actually, these are exactly the kind of pieces I want to crochet. The author does a fine job in presenting technical details about the different needles and yarns, as well as pictures, which show the beginner how to do the various loops and stitches. Even though I have crochet for a long time, I found stitches I had never seen, like the Crocodile Stitch. I think that is the first one I am going to try out..
This book would be a wonderful gift for a daughter, who wants to create unique, individualized, fashionable clothing - 5 stars

I was gifted a copy to facilitate my review of this book. I usually review fiction books. However, I have had several students come to me this year asking me if I could show them how to crochet because a teacher told them I crochet and sew and do all kinds of crafts. When approached about reviewing this book I agreed because I needed to provide a resource for my students. I am ot always available. I have definitely recommended this book to my students and will recommend it to anyone else interested in learning the art of crochet. The pictures are easy to understand as are the directions. I handed a ball of yarn to one of my students along with my Kindle and asked them to follow the directions. They had aboslutely no problem doing this. If a 10 or 11 year old child can follow the directions and understand then this should be no problem for an adult. I definitely recommend this to anyone who wants to learn to crochet.

I pick up a lot of books on crocheting and other arts and crafts. Mostly I am looking for my next project. Even instructional books, like this one, have some cool patterns I might not have seen elsewhere. But, alas! This book doesn't do it for me.

Yes, the instructions are written fairly well. I mean the language is easy to understand. But the font is greyed out in a lot of places where I couldn't read it without getting a headache. Thank goodness, and a few aunts, I know how to crochet already and I didn't have to start with this book.

And though this is illustrated, there just are not enough, nor accurate pictures to help a novice. And I found no new ideas for my own collection of patterns. Sigh!

Fairly well written. Missing a few photographs and could use some editing. Good, basic step-by-step tutorial.
