This volume is the first monograph to deal with the subject of battle trauma in antiquity; it discusses medical and practical aspects of wound treatment, war wounds as a topos in literature and the archaeological evidence.
This was written for a scholarly audience (it's an expansion of the author's PhD thesis), which means citations litter the page, and the footnotes are choked with original Greek and Latin. It also really, really reads like a thesis, which can be frustrating at times when what you want is a smooth narrative. That aside, the information was very interesting.
