James Howard Kunstler (born 1948) is an American author, social critic, and blogger who is perhaps best known for his book The Geography of Nowhere, a history of suburbia and urban development in the United States. He is prominently featured in the peak oil documentary, The End of Suburbia, widely circulated on the internet. In his most recent non-fiction book, The Long Emergency (2005), he argues that declining oil production is likely to result in the end of industrialized society and force Americans to live in localized, agrarian communities.

This book made me giggle as I read it. It is about this man named Davy Crockett and it tells you all about the adventures he's had. My favorite part was when he was stuck in a log with bees on one side and a bear on the other. How he managed to get out of that situation was amusing to read. The story then goes on to tell about his adventures moving and getting involved with politics. The dialogue and the word choice used in this book makes for a fun, lighthearted reading experience. I enjoyed reading this tale.

The Audible version with Nicolas Cage reading it, accompanied by jaunty banjo music, is pretty entertaining.

This book about Davy Crockett tells us about the journey that is his life. He was born in Tennessee, and when he was 9 he had to move because the game there was scarce and there was little food for him and his family. He got married to Polly Finley and had many daughters with her, and they soon had to move due to lack of sufficient food supply. They moved to Elk River where there was plenty of game to last them. Crockett went off to war and when he came back, he ran for congress. He was defeated, and decided that he was going to Texas. At the time, Texas was trying to gain independence from Mexico, but of course Mexico didn’t like that at all. Davy Crockett got a little troop together to fight against Mexico, and they won!

The illustrations in this book are amazing. Kids are such perfectionists when it comes to the illustrations that they pair with their writing pieces. With this book, they can see that your illustrations don’t have to look at all like real people, they can have some character. Sometimes character makes the illustrations seem even better. I hope that students can use this book to think about different ways to illustrate for their writing that aren’t so average. This book provides a great demonstration of the different ways people can illustrate and what the illustrations can do for the text.
