Take your kids on an interactive adventure through the Bible story of Joshua. Both my kids loved this book, even my 1 year old! The fun sound effects make it so fun and you can have them march around with you as well and blow their trumpets. It is written in a way to get young kids interacting with the story as they learn the true story of Joshua and the fall of Jericho. The bright illustrations are eye catching to young ones. This book is part of a series we have been enjoying and teaches that God is always with us.

Thank you @thegoodbookcompanyusa for a copy for my honest thoughts!

Some Bible stories naturally lend themselves to interactive storytelling, and Joshua and the Very Strong City takes full advantage of that! This wonderfully illustrated hardback invites little ones to march, stomp, and shout their way through the true story of Jericho’s fall. Tim Thornborough’s lively retelling and Jennifer Davison’s vibrant illustrations make this an engaging and faith-filled adventure, helping young hearts grasp the power of obedience, trust in God, and the assurance that He is always with us.

One of the things I love most about this book is how it transforms Bible reading into an experience! Little feet will be marching like soldiers, hands will cup imaginary trumpets, and voices will rise in victorious shouts. While the fun of acting out the story keeps kids engaged, the deeper message remains: God is always with us, we must obey Him, and we can trust Him completely.

The artwork is another standout. The bright, bold illustrations capture attention and bring the story to life in a way that’s perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. As part of the Very Best Bible Stories series, this book is a fantastic addition to any collection.

Whether read as a family or used in a church or preschool setting, Joshua and the Very Strong City is a joyful, interactive way to plant seeds of faith. It reminds little ones that following God isn’t just the right thing to do—it’s the best thing to do. And who knows? That final page might not be the end—just the beginning of a living room parade!

Joshua and the very Strong City by Tim Thornborough with illustrations by Jennifer Davison is the newest addition to the Very Best Bible Stories series! Just like the rest of the series, this is an accurate retelling that makes it interactive and entertaining for kids as young as two to learn Bible stories.

God told Joshua to march around Jericho every day for six days quietly, and then on the seventh day to blow their trumpets and shout! If they followed God’s instructions, then they could trust in Him for victory. Your little ones will have fun learning to trust and obey God as they practice marching like a solider.

“Be strong and brave. I am fighting for you. I will be with you.” God is always with us. This is the key point kids will learn as they “tramp, trampety, tramp, tramp,” and “stamp, stampety, stamp, stamp,” around their room, waiting to shout!

My five-year-old and I always enjoy reading stories from this series! The illustrations are bold, bright, and colorful. The story is simple while remaining faithful to the Bible, and kids will love being able to move around and shout!

This book would make a great addition to your home libraries.

This fun picture book encourages little readers to "stamp, stampety, stamp, stamp" and be at the ready to blow their trumpets.

🩷 The text is theologically sound and the illustrations are bright and colorful. My favorite part is the nod to Rahab, her part of the wall stands tall marked with a scarlet cord.

God always keeps His promises!

🩵 Then the Lord gave Joshua this very special promise: "Be Strong And Brave. I am fighting for you. I will be with you."

💫 If you are looking for an interactive series for young kids, this is a great one to check out.
Recommended for ages 2-4.

The book catches your attention in expecting the reader to grab their trumpet and get ready to march, tramp, trampety, tramp, tramp... This is so perfect for a group of preschoolers and then it explains the truth from the Word of God. The directions to march, then wait, then follow God's orders and march but not blow their trumpets until day 7 .... The descriptive wording, illustrations, and the entire book create a phenomenal experience for the listener, leaving a lasting impression! Thankful to get a copy to review. I'll be using this regularly!

3.5 stars, rounded up.

This picture book retells the biblical story of the Battle of Jericho in a way that is faithful to the source material, while greatly simplifying the plot for a very young audience. Tim Thornborough writes in a kid-friendly style, with lots of short sentences, simple vocabulary, and some counting elements. The colorful illustrations from Jennifer Davison are eye-catching and full of energy, and they will engage kids individually and in group contexts. Because the illustrations are so vivid and high-contrast, this will work well in a church classroom setting where a teacher is holding this up for a whole group of kids to see.

The text has a great, punchy rhythm that is easy to read aloud with expression, and unlike some other books in the same series, this one also includes interactive elements to act out. Kids can march along in a rhythm, can count how many times the Israelites marched around the city walls, and can join in with some excited exclamations. This is very engaging, and the book emphasizes the message that God is always with us, and always keeps His promises.

Joshua and the Very Strong City will appeal to fans of this series, and to people who are interested in Bible story books written for toddlers and preschoolers at a very basic level. However, even though this book is kid-friendly, the story it represents is complex and raises tough questions, and I wish that this had included an author's note for parents and educators to provide more information from the Bible and possible perspectives for how to discuss the story's complexity with kids who are ready for that. Nonetheless, this is a solid, appealing book that will work well for the target audience.

This is such an adorable book. I’m always on the hunt for new books for my kids, and loved this one. The hands on experience elevates it that much more.

It’s a wonderful retelling of Joshua. Walking through the story of his battle with Jericho, it was just great! I love finding biblical stories, and this was a great one to help introduce Bible stories.

I also loved the incorporation of actions through! It’s a fun hands on experience.

Overall, a great book for kids. I’m looking forward to reading this one with my own littles.

Joshua and the Very Strong City is the latest title in the Very Best Bible Stories series by The Good Book Company. It teaches little ones the account of Joshua 6 in which Jericho was delivered to Joshua and the Israelites. This was a means of God fulfilling His covenant to bring His people to the Promised Land.

Joshua and the Very Strong City contains captivating illustrations. It helps children see how this story fits in with the overall story of Scripture and teaches them that God is always with us because of Jesus. This is a fun read for young children and a great way to introduce them to biblical events.

{Thank you to @thegoodbookcompanyusa for my gifted copy of this title in exchange for an honest review.}

“Jesus promises the same thing to his people today. He is the Very Mighty God…and He is always with us.”

Joshu and the Very Strong City is part of the Very Best Bible Stories Series and is the ninth title within it.

I love the way that this beautifully and vibrantly illustrated picture book begins by inviting children to imagine themselves as part of this story, marching and preparing to blow their trumpet. The invitation to interact with the story is a fun way to get kids excited and focused on what they’re about to read.

This story does an excellent job capturing the events of Joshua 5 and 6 in a way that is accessible and engaging for children. The repetition in the story is fun for littles, and I appreciated the connection made in the end when the author reminds us that this God is the same today and that He’s always with His people.

I would definitely recommend this sweet picture book title!
