Very cute story! I enjoyed reading about Anne and Dominic’s love story

A cute small town romance set in the 80s. Set 10 years before my time, I enjoyed reading this book in this time setting. Brittany captured multiple characteristics from this era.. clothing style , music, technology.. to name a few. It was cool to see what it was like back then. I loved the small town setting as well.

the book has many topics and tropes that I have previously enjoyed in a good romance book. As well as many emotions that kept my attention through the book. Dominic is Anne’s missing puzzle piece through it all.. being able to be vulnerable through their grieving and able to tell one another everything and anything was just what they both needed.

I loved the characters in this book.Ann and Anne’s relationship… being the bestest of friends , soul sisters forever! Their relationship was heart harming and at times funny. I also loved the relationships between the two couples. This book can be read as a stand alone so I appreciate that Brittany decided to still include and talk about Ann and Michael from book 1. I have not read the first book yet so it was nice to learn about the two of them in this book as well. The family dynamics felt close to home for me, the small town, everyone knowing and loving eachother as family made me reminisce back to my own home town. Anne and Dominic’s relationship was lovely as well, watching them grow together, the connection… and the SPICE , I did not expect it to be that spicy but I loved it !

this book is in 3rd person , and as a new reader I have yet to read this type of writing style . At times there were parts that were difficult for me to understand due to me not being familiar with a third person POV. I did receive this book as an ARC so not all final edits were included at my time of reading

I also do wish that it was clarrifed better during the scenes of fake dating as I found it was hard to differentiate when the moments between them were “real” or “pretend”

I like the idea of having both friends with the same name Ann & Anne , in real life we come across meeting so many people with the same name all the time, it is a cool/different aspect although I think some readers may have a difficult time with this.

Overall, I enjoyed this book! I am a big romance lover and liked this book alot. I think the overall story was so cute and a great read for me.

This book was just entirely "too much" for me.
The characters were way too much and so cringey. The length was way too long and from 16% I was wanting to DNF (the only part I enjoyed AT ALL was the last 10%, which if the whole book was like, I would've loved this book).
The plot itself seemed awkward and really took a backseat the whole time to the terrible show that was the characters. The basic idea had potential but the way events flowed just really made it lackluster.
And don't even get me started on the smut scenes; there were way way way too many and in most instances did not add anything to the plot.
In addition, relationships between side characters felt really odd and with the amount of characters added right at the end of the story, I really lost track of who was who.
Overall, this book was definitely not for me, and I will not be reading anything more from this author.

Love this and I'm already singing it's praises to friends!

I'm still standing is a fun, quirky Romcom that leaves you loving and rooting for these two FMCs. Dual POV with equally loveable MCs, also reverse sunshine which is ALWAYS fun.

Anne used to be fun, but she's been rocked by heartache and tragedy and doesn't know who she is anymore or get back to who she used to be. She's been gaslit to believe that she is too much and to be loved she needs to be less than.

Also too much? Dominic. He is a too much MMC and holds no apologies about it. I absolutely loved him. He is loud, dramatic, passionate, and doesn't care who knows it. But under the surface, he is also breaking.

Put these two in a room together and there is instant magic. Amazing, laugh out loud banter, with so much heart that it makes you never want to stop reading.

The 80s vibe and references were so fun. This book is definitely a thick one, but not a page is wasted. We are here for a journey of love, healing, and fun and we definitely get that!

Overall: highly recommend!

“In that moment, Anne felt like she was no longer a corpse masquerading as a living being, she felt her flesh warm again from what felt like a forever winter.”

These two were amazing! Anne and Dominic were electric, I loved that they were both so extra and ‘too much’.

Dominic, just like Michael, is completely obsessed with his wife, like ridiculously obsessed. Everything he done for her was so ridiculously sweet.

Anne was definitely my kinda girl, she was feisty, funny and too much.

I loved Michael and Ann’s appearances, and watching Ann and Anne sisterhood continue to grow and watching Dominic and Michael gain a brother hood, true bromance!

This story dealt with a lot of grief and how both Dominic and Anne both helped each other go through grief and become themselves once again.

I really enjoyed this book, Anne and Dominic were amazing. Brittany’s writing has improved so much since book 1 and it was so obvious in by this one!

I truly think that this is a stellar sophomore novel from Brittany Carson. One thing that will always surprise me (in a very positive away) about this girl and her writing is how deceptively care-free it is. This book has such a strong and beautiful message. It has merit to stand on its own, but the cameos from all our beloved friends from Brittany’s first novel JTWYA make it so much more fun. Ann and Anne continue their shenanigans; Michael and Dominic form a bromance. This is insta-love with a twist; there is a LOT of push back, which makes their eventual reunion so much more exciting. Brittany is truly filling the market with beautifully sweet romantic stories and I absolutely cannot wait for her to grow even more as a writer!

I'm Still Standing is set in Britain during the 1980s. Dominic has arrived in Whitby with plans to renovate and restore the small town to its former glory. He immediately runs into Anne at the train station and falls head over heels in love-at-first sight. Dominic is 100% cinnamon roll... little stalkerish at times but it's part of his charm (not in a creepy way). After meeting Anne, his every move is for her. I mean, the guy gave her his loaded wallet for Pete's sake.

Anne had just graduated from college, works 2 jobs just to keep the bills paid. Her parents died in a fire that happened in the pub they owned. She's full of grief, anxiety, stress, overworked... and her best friend keeps having loud sex. She keeps brushing off Dominic but maybe she can leave past relationships in the past and see Dominic is different.

This book was very different than most books I read! It felt more like a script for a movie or a play vs a novel. The story is 90% dialogue between the characters, which was pretty cool. It did get a little long for me, but if you love Elton John music, pubs, and irritating ex-jerk boyfriends, this is the book for you!

I’m Still Standing is an adorably fun 80s-style romcom dual POV read with some massive character development and some amazing quotes that will have you grabbing your highlighter and marking up those pages.

One of my faves:
"I mean that skirt is a masterpiece on her figure. Makes a man want to join a religion just to sin against it."

The story follows Anne and Dominic who both have their fair share of baggage and grief. Their lives come together in true romcom fashion and we get to read as their relationship unfolds into something incredible.

Both characters have large personalities and Brittany Carson does an amazing job writing about love, grief, and everything in between.

I have to start by saying that this is not the typical book that I read. I usually read a lot of dark, twisted, emotional books that rip your heart out. I’m Still Standing is not one of those books. This book is a cute sweet love story with a grumpy FMC and a sweet (and a little annoying) MMC. But that doesn’t make it any less. Every now and then it’s nice to have a little bit of sunshine in your life. And just because it isn’t dark doesn’t mean that the MCs don’t have pain. They both are dealing with grief, and they help each other to survive that grief.

I’m Still Standing is the second book in this series. Even though it is the second book, it can be read completely as a standalone. But if you did read Just the Way You Are, you will be happy to see Ann and Michael making an appearance in this book. The MCs in this book are Anne and Dominic. It can be strange having both FMCs with almost the same name, but as someone who has made friends with people simply because we shared the same name, I can appreciate this. I love the MCs in this book. I can always appreciate a grumpy FMC and a MMC that does his best to win her heart.

I’m Still Standing takes place in the 80’s and as an 80’s baby, I love some of the references. Even more so, I love the music attached to this book. Not only is there a playlist of some of the best music, but the chapters are also all names of fantastic songs. I found myself singing the songs in my head all day after reading.

I did have a little bit of trouble getting started and I will warn you that this book is long. But there is plenty of spicy spice, so if that’s what you are looking for, you’ll appreciate this book. I’m Still Standing has a lot of good cute scenes and the back and forth that you expect from a good romance. If you are having trouble getting into it, it might be worth it to stay with it and keep reading. You may find that you will really enjoy this book.

I’m Still Standing is a sweet small town romance that is the second in a series but can be read as a standalone. This book is set in the 80s and also contains the fake dating trope, millionaire romance and, to an extent, forced proximity.

Ann Sulley has just lost her parents and has found herself back in her home town trying to pick up the pieces. With a mortgage to pay and the bones of a burned down pub to sort out, she is working through so many heavy circumstances for her young 22 year old life. Her life changes when she (literally) bumps into Dominic Humphrey at the train station. It is after this moment that their rollercoaster ride begins to unfold. Told in 3rd person with a dual POV I enjoyed the way that the reader was able to really know how the character was feeling in real time.

The best friend main characters were named Ann and Anne. While I can absolutely relate to this (myself and my best friend growing up shared the same name), I found this made the reading experience quite cumbersome.

I absolutely loved the small town setting of this book! The MCs were both working through some very serious issues (including grief and abusive relationships), and I absolutely loved how they supported each other through it. The MMC Dominic fell fast and hard, and made it his mission to help Anne out of the dark space in any way he could. This made it easy to fall in love with him as a reader.

Ultimately, the thing I loved most about this book started right from the dedication which read, “This book is dedicated to those who were told they were too much. Your passion is infectious, never stop loving hard”. It is a great reminder to never dull your sparkle for anyone, if someone feels you are “too much” then they are just not the right person for you. What a wonderful message.

ARC REVIEW x

FIRST OF ALL i am so so so endlessly proud of my booksta bestie. i’ve watched her grow as both a reader & a writer and i am just so honored to be able to support her in her publishing journey. she is gonna be a proud mom of two book babies!!!! 🥹

ISS was an incredible progression from JTWYA. seeing her grow in her grammar and writing skill was so awesome and… just… i am so proud. i’ll start crying!

review-wise, it was fast-paced, had so much depth, and the characters were everything. i loved getting to see more anne sulley and the way carson handled grief was fantastic. the banter and the romance was just so sweet and wholesome and everything i could ever want for anne. her and dominic balanced each other out really well and they just made me want to sob happy tears for them 😭😭

the reason for the five stars is because of how much improvement and growth carson has incorporated and i know how hard she worked to make sure she incorporated. alongside that, i just resonated so much with anne and seeing her grow from JTWYA into her book was simply perfect. the chemistry and the plot was exciting and unique, and still had brittany’s unique spin and signature on it. her books are always such a comfort for me because they’re quality fun.

anyways i love brittany, this book, and you should too once it comes out on september 22 😁 (im really proud of myself for that rhyme)

This book has been one of the cutest and heartbreaking books all in one. It does have a happy ending but the roller coaster ride I went through gave me whiplash in the best way.

The book is set in a dual POV but in third person so you could see the books perspective from both the MFC and the MMC. I feel like this set up really complimented the story especially when it came to show casting the hardships each character was going through and how they dealt with their own issues.

It was a cute read and liked how the characters complimented each other very well.

Anne character was a character that had so many issues going on throughout her life but she was just trying to continue and move on to better herself and to get a better aspect in life especially when it came to the debt she was dealing with. There were times I felt really really bad for her because it was well written how much she was struggling.

Dominic character was a cute character but at times I did feel like he was too much but it wasn’t overbearing or bad. He was a cute character especially since I loved the way he would try and make Anne smile and how he always complimented her. He was a gentleman that knew extacly what to say even if at times he was a bit off in the timing.

Their dynamic with each other was so well written it was like they were a puzzle that were missing each other in order to be fully complete.

I enjoyed it

The Next book in The Vinyl Collection Series;which are interconnected standalones;
following Anne Sulley & Dominic Humphrey! We met Anne in JTWYA
And she was my favorite side character!
This Beautiful Book, was such heart wrenching and heartwarming book all put together in one and I don’t say that lightly!

Now Anne Sulley is returning home to Whitby heartbroken, and reeling with grief at the loss of her parents! Her path Crosses with Dominic Humphrey our MMC who also recently lost someone in his life, and also dealing with grief, has come to the area for an investment for his property company. Like literally they cross paths continuously like its fate and destiny at play. I felt so many emotions reading this book, Brittany has a way of being able to make you feel what her characters are feeling in such a raw way. I had a tissue box at one point, because I didn’t know if I was going to cry or laugh at times .This book is also in Dual POV, third person so you could see the perspective of both MC’s. I felt this helped especially with showcasing what they each were thinking, going through at various moments throughout the storyline.

Both Characters helped each other get through their grief and helped heal each other, with their banter, teasing and wit you could see them slowly accepting each other as they are quirks, mistakes and all. There is also lighthearted, RomCom feels as well Dominic is trying to win our girl Anne’s heart and it’s so sweet and heartwarming at times.

Though this one was definitely a rollercoaster ride to get to that HEA it was worth it in the end! The dynamic these characters have with each other is something I quite haven’t felt in similar books of the same genre. Which has made this book one of my top fall reads! This 80’s
Romcom is one I will definitely comeback to!

Thank you so much to BBPR & Brittany Carson for this ARC!

I had a great time reading this book by Brittany! First I love the overall vibe of this book. The 80s vibe is just a cute idea. I think the 80s is a defining moment in history and in this book it just made sense. It's so cute and a really different take on a time period.

From the beginning,I loved Dominic! He's such a sweetie and for some reason, I could not help but just love him from day one! He was the cutest and his internal thoughts had me laughing so hard. I think Anne's character teaches us a lot about grief, love, and life. I think her character just really tugged on my heart because of all the hurt she had been through. The topics discussed in this book are really heartfelt. Prepare to be in your feels.

I will say the book starts off a bit slow in terms of pacing but it is very much worth it. It does take a second to get to the juicy part but the build up is worth every minute. I loved the ending so much and felt like the work towards Anne and Dominics relationship was constructed beautifully. There was a lot of tug and pull. I appreciated that Anne and Dominic really went through a lot of get to each other. It was just beautiful.

The spice was pretty regular! I think it was a good amount but the book is very focused on grief. So be prepared for that.

Thank you Brittany for letting me read your book ! I really enjoyed it.

This was such a fun read. Being an 80’s baby myself, I loved it was sent then. I do wish it was significantly shorter. I really connected with Annie, and feeling like too much. I genuinely think I’d be friends with both Annie and Dominic had they lived in real life. Found myself smiling often while reading this.

This book is so freaking adorable.

Anne lost her parents, has a pub that that withstood a fire, and took over her parent’s crippling mortgage. This were definitely not looking up for her. Until the handsome millionaire Dominic Humphrey stepped in her life and gave her an offer she couldn’t refuse. As much as Anne told herself she would not fall Dominic’s charm, she did the one thing she vowed she’d would do. Fall in love with him.

This book was such a breath of fresh air. It just has a homey feel to it. The writing was amazing and I felt like I was watching a tv show the whole time I was reading it.

I really loved the characters. I feel like Anne can be relatable to everyone. The way she falls for Dominic but is torn between she doesn’t want to mix work with pleasure. And Dominic is just the sweetest guy. And their pet names for each other just made me absolutely smile.

One of my favorite things was that it was set in the 80’s. Every book I have read has either been set in the present or future. So it was nice to read a book in the past.

The only things I disliked was the length of the book and at times the FMC. I just felt like it was too long and some of it was unnecessary. I thought Anne was so hot and cold. And she played with poor Dominic’s emotions.

Not the usual book I've read before. It took me a bit to get into it because of the colocialisms of the location. It’s in a small town in the UK in 1989, but once I got over that, it hit me a bit close to home. I felt relatable to the loss of a loved one and the pain and want to blame and feel like everything could go wrong because the person you love is gone from your life. Anne was really in the deep of it and, while I personally wasn’t that far off, I understood her in a way.

Dominic being such a positive character despite his loss, and want to be happiness for Anne was an element she needed even if she didn’t want to admit it. His persistence in wanting to know Anne more was his desire to have a new beginning. There was just so much high emotion, cynicism, sarcasm and sass. The kind of rollercoaster that could only be with a cast of characters that were so involved with each other in the past.

I loved the idea of an 80s romance but I just wasn't feeling this read. The MCs were okay but I was left wanting a little more romance. It felt like their relationship started off really fast and mostly centered around the smexy times. The spice was good but I needed a little more page time with them learning about each other, developing a friendship, romancing each other, with more flirting and conversation.

There's also a looming cloud of sadness and grief due to FMC recently loosing her parents and on top of that suffering from a broken heart. I think she would have benefitted from dating/loving herself on her own before jumping into a relationship with the MMC.

Overall both MCs were cute and I was happy they got their HEA and were happy together but it was missing a little of that fluffy romance and rose tinged vibes I tend to gravitate towards.

I might read this one again in the future, when I'm in a different less gooey romance mind set but for now, 3 stars.

My thoughts: I’m Still Standing is set in 3rd person, personally, not my favorite. After reading in first person for so long, it was hard for me to follow. However, I enjoyed that it was set in the 80's and it was so fun to go back to that time period. Very nostalgic. The story follows Anne, which was also a little confusing since her BBF is also named Ann, and Rob Lowe look-a-like, Dominic. They have a total meet-cute and their love story was fun to follow. It was nice that since it was set in the 80's there was more connection and more conversation and interaction. It was a great read and very relatable. I would have given more stars but to me it was a little heavy and hard to follow at certain times.

Thank you to Brittany and Bookish Bubbly PR for the ARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I loved the setting of the 1980s in a seaside English town. The hopeless romantic in me is a sucker for that kind of a setting. I loved Dominic and his desire to figure out the puzzle of Anne kept me reading. As someone who has lost a parent in the last year I could sympathize with Anne and her grief and her struggles of being able to express her feelings with those closest to her. Anne’s strength in admitting her vulnerabilities throughout the book made me like her all the more and made her a perfect fit for Dominic. Whitby really is the perfect place to find love and plant roots!

I will say I did struggle a little bit with the flashbacks and pacing of the story but I think the may have been due to the format that I read it. Overall I really enjoyed the story and will be thinking about Whitby for weeks to come!

I'm Still Standing brings readers back to the 1980s when Rob Lowe was the dreamiest and times were simple. This is your typical girl meets boy, girl finds boy super annoying, and boy continues to show up everywhere. The beginning of the book is clumsy and confusing, but it hits a stride once it establishes that it is dual POV within an individual chapter. The characters are well-developed and interesting, and the setting is appealing. Even though this is the second book in the series, it is a complete stand alone story, so you can just jump right in. Be aware, this book does deal with grief and doesn't shy away from the effects on ourselves and those around us; this was something that kept me reading.

If I had to define this book in one word, it would be Cute.

I liked reading Anne and Dominic's story, set in a small town, and featuring everything 80s- from clothing to music.

The book has good characters, that grow over the book, and I liked the sisterly love of Ann and Anne. The portrayal of grief was good and realistic.

This is book 2 in the series with book 1 focusing on Ann and Mitchell, however they are also part of this book.

The things that I didn't quite like were that real and fake dating kind of merged together and would have been better if they were a little clear. Also, the book was just wayyyyy too long and despite me liking it, it was a struggle finishing it and I almost DNFd it so many times.

*Skipped the spicy scenes, which were way too many and just made the book longer.

I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

If asked to use one word to describe this book, it would CUTE. Despite heavy themes of grief, Anne and Dominic’s love story was sweet, if somewhat predictable.

Told through dual POV, Anne is back in Whitby after suffering the loss of her parents. Dominic is there looking for his next big real estate development site. Their first meeting does not go well - Dominic is annoying and Anne is aloof, but, in true rom-com fashion, first impressions are destined to change.

Things I liked included: small town vibe, retro 1980s setting, cinnamon roll MMC, fake dating trope. Things that didn’t work as well for me: the book was too long, it took me a while to warm up to the FMC, occasionally choppy writing.

Thanks to the author and Bookish Bubbly PR for the gifted copy in exchange for my unbiased review.

Very cute book! I loved reading about Anne and Dominic.
I also loved the 80s style romcom/ very nostalgic!

Blurb:
1989
Anne Sulley is coming off what she thought was a second chance at true love, now she has to pick herself as more tragic news comes about.
Whilst nursing a broken heart, Anne now has to deal with the death of her parents and all the mess they left behind. Including a completely burnt down pub and a mortgage of her childhood home.
Dominic Humphrey is on the hunt for the next booming destination. Nothing screams appeal like a romantic bay town. Whitby is perfect to build his property portfolio. The pretty brunette with the teary blue eyes that he keeps running in to may very well be a another reason to stay ~
Is Dominic’s love strong enough to aid Anne’s breaking heart?

This is one of my favourite reads so far this year. Set in the 1980s, it made me giggle a lot and remember how life was then (I'm a 70s baby!). I absolutely loved Anne, her sarcasm, her ability to fly off the handle over the simplest of comments, and the way she can take something said and completely twist it to be negative. Yep, she is me! Oh, but Dominic and his ability to speak all of his thoughts out loud without really realising that he is doing it! If any people are meant to be together, it's these two!

The relationship development is such a nice read. I loved how they supported each other through grief and trauma and helped each other to be stronger. The passion in the writing is beautiful, and I absolutely loved how feisty this book is.

This book does deal with grief so please check triggers.

That being said, I loved the idea of this being set in the 1980's! However naming both best friends Ann and Anne quickly becomes confusing if you use voice view screen reader.

The no cell phones, cameras everywhere super high tech part of today's world was nice to have disappear because of the time frame. It allowed for a lot more forced face to face interaction, which I did love!

Overall though, I think this book just wasn't for me. The MMC gave me the modern day 'stalker, red flag, dark romance' vibe at first but as it went on he started to get desperate instead of endearing.
