In this revolutionary new book that blends insights from Eastern and Western traditions, spiritual guide and YouTube sensation Aaron Abke shows that enlightenment and liberation from suffering are not lofty and unattainable goals — they are our destiny
Aaron Abke’s personal journey has taken him from evangelical Christian pastor to fitness model to one of America’s top spiritual thought leaders. Along the way, a profound awakening inspired by Eckhart Tolle drove him to the metaphysical insights he presents in his revolutionary first book. The Three Beliefs of Ego is a riveting exposition of the nature of suffering and a guide to spiritual freedom built on Abke’s reimagining of the concept of ego. Though it’s often treated as an enemy to be conquered, he instead sees the ego as a product of three core lack, attachment, and control. These beliefs then give rise to the primary emotions of sadness, anger, and fear — the root causes of human suffering. From this paradigm-shifting premise, Abke takes readers on an inward journey to transcend these three beliefs and clear a path to inner peace.
Central to this approach is Abke’s groundbreaking Emotional Guidance System, a powerful yet practical tool for pinpointing the ego’s three core beliefs as they shape our thoughts and actions. Blending principles drawn from both Western and Eastern traditions, the simple practice outlined in the book provides a comprehensive and down-to-earth route to “no-reason happiness,” which is accessible to seekers at any stage of their journey. Built on clear and transformative insights, The Three Beliefs of Ego is truly a blueprint for practical enlightenment and lasting spiritual liberation.
While the description calls this “revolutionary”, I decided to read this book not because I thought there would be some new information or wisdoms within but because I heard the author on a podcast a few years ago. He spoke about Jesus in a way that felt so much truer to my experience with God than any experience I’ve ever had with religion. I appreciated the fresh air on the subject.
What I found was a book that sounds like a 30 year old recently read ACIM and immediately decided to write a book based on its teachings. (To be clear: I, too, was deeply affected by ACIM when I first studied it. So I get the enthusiasm.) In this book, he blends ACIM with teachings that are much of eastern philosophy regarding the nature of the ego structure and our ability to observe it in action. BUT - and this is a huge but- the book is not cohesive in its own unfolding. It meanders and repeats and loosely adheres to what the chapters are titled to be about. I had to stop after the chapters of what he categorizes as the first belief of the ego, which is lack. Lots of pages and words of lofty and deep spiritual truths while having far less space regarding anything lived or real flow in organized thought.
So I guess if you’re looking to meander in the spiritual wilderness, then this is the book for you. Personally, I’ll wait until this kid lives another 20 years of his human and spiritual journey to circle back around to his work.
Most spiritual teachings focus on the light, which is beautiful, but they rarely teach us about the adversary: the ego. Aaron does an extraordinary job revealing how the ego actually operates, how it pulls us out of alignment, and how it keeps us trapped in patterns of fear, shame, and separation.
What I appreciate most is how comprehensive and practical this book is. Aaron doesn’t just explain the ego; he gives you a clear path back to yourself by following your emotional guidance system. It’s simple, profound, and deeply empowering.
If you’re serious about awakening, emotional mastery, and returning to your true Self, this book is not just helpful, it’s essential.
I have watched all of Aarons videos on the subject of The Three Beliefs of Ego and this book explained it in new depths, new ways, that truly hit home for me.
I catch myself LIVING the practices. I get 60-70% less negative thoughts now after a few months of true practice. Realizing the deeper emotion, feeling to heal it, connecting it to one of the three beliefs of ego, finding the opposite TRUE thought, requalifying the thought to return to Unity Consciousness.
and boom. Over and over again. Now it feels like a reflex muscle. Nothing has snagged me away for quite some time. It's all God experiencing itself. Trusting the process with ease and grace.
I was not sure about Aaron when I got his book to read it, but I thought the best way to learn about him was to read his book. I am so happy I did. Aaron has an amazing ability to explain ego on the level that all of us can grasp. We have such a mistake and understanding of ego. I think we look at ego as pride and while they’re connected, there’s so much more to what ego is all about. Excellent excellent book and I will read it many times over thank you Aaron for this book. Thank you for taking the time to write it and share your understanding with us now that I have read it. I will sign up for your book club so I can learn more thank you.
