This monograph deals with one of the most difficult and complex periods in the history of Transcarpathia and the struggle of the European countries to control it. The author, a scholar from the Institute of Slavic Studies (Moscow), reveals many previously unknown or forgotten and controversial episodes of the internal and external politics of these states during the period covered. Major attention is given to the fates of the vast population that inhabited this region under different powers and regimes.
