DI Carmichael #4

Deadly Secrets

When the eminent mathematician and former government advisor Marcus Ardleigh is found hanged in his home in the sleepy Lancashire village of Moulton Bank, at first it looks to be a simple case of suicide. Very soon, however, Inspector Steve Carmichael begins to suspect that the death is altogether more complicated than it appears. As his investigations lead him and his team ever deeper into Ardleigh's murky past and into tortured lives of his lukewarm friends and bitter enemies, dark and dangerous secrets begin to emerge...

Hi! I'm Ian McFadyen, author of the DI Carmichael series. Originally from Liverpool, I now plot Carmichael's next adventures from Hertfordshire where I live with my wife, Chris.

Currently all the books I have written are for the DI Carmichael series. The series now contains 8 books, and I'm working on number 9 right now. The books can be read in order or on their own.

I really enjoy visiting libraries around the UK to give book talks & to discuss my novels with readers. I love to hear theories people come up with of who the murderer is as the read along.

My favorite in the series so far. Loved the plot twists and back stories of the characters and the whole creation of the sleepy little village hit by the crime. This was my first Carmichael book and I immediately downloaded the others.

This is the fourth in the Inspector Carmichael series and I've read all the previous ones. They are not great literature but have a charm of their own and I have really enjoyed them all. Anyone who enjoys whodunits will like them, they are written in a manner that would perfectly suit a TV detective and I'm sure the author hopes that one day his books might come to the notice of a production company but that's not to distract from their entertainment value. The writing is sometimes naive and almost homely and doesn't require the reader to invest too much, and as with the others I got through this in just a couple of days and just let the story flow over me. I hadn't exactly worked out the ending although I'm sure others will but still thoroughly enjoyed trying.

Another interesting exploration of human relationships and origins of murder plots which may go back 30 years or more. Carmichael certainly has the bodies pile up around him when investigating a murder.

Un buon poliziesco.L'idea è già stata sfruttata da altri. Interessa. Anche se costrutto, personaggi, “atmosfera” , è quella dei gialli di cinquant'anni (e più) fa.
