In September 2012, well-known author and evangelist Angus Buchan was invited to speak at the Feast of Tabernacles, a yearly celebration held in Israel in the Ein Gedi desert. But nothing could have prepared him for the miraculous events that were about to take place . . .Join Buchan and a multitude of worshippers as they experience a manifestation of the Holy Spirit that none of them will ever forget. The author also examines past and present Revivals, teaching readers important truths for their lives today. A Rushing Mighty Wind will amaze and inspire you as you discover a newfound passion for our Friend and Comforter, the Holy Spirit.
Jill and I found Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour on the 18th of February 1979, just two years after settling in Greytown, Kwa-Zulu Natal Midlands, South Africa. Originally from Zambia, we bought a piece of land on which we planned to farm crops and livestock. We had very little to start with but even as brand new Christians, we were content with our farm, which we later called SHALOM.
In 1980, the Lord gave us a vision - very simply and clearly, through His Word. We believed our responsibility to be the following:
The Great Commission - Mark 16:15
Caring for Orphans and Widows - James 1:27
Equipping Saints for the Work of Ministry - Matthew 28:20
Everything undertaken at Shalom embraces this threefold vision and Shalom has become home to a community of families and believers who live and work as a team.
I first became aware of the author Angus Buchan, through the movie Faith Like Potatoes. The movie is based on his life as a young farmer in Zambia, Africa. Because of political unrest and land re-claims, he left the country to move south to KwaZulu Natal, South Africa to begin a new farm with his wife and children. Their struggle to get established was tense and desperate, but with the help of his foreman, Simeon Bhengu, they scraped by. Hardships and personal tragedy made Angus angry and disillusioned until he met Jesus. His life was transformed. I know that sounds cliche, but it isn't in this movie. The movie is well worth your time to watch if you want to get the background on this preacher of God's Word today.
The book, A Rushing Mighty Wind, is one of Mr. Buchan's most recent updates. I was very excited to have this opportunity to read and review it. He shares with his readers of an extraordinary experience that occurred at a Christian get together in Israel. Mr. Buchan, who by now is a popular conference speaker as well as preacher and teacher, was asked by the International Christian Embassy to be the keynote speaker at the annual Feast of Tabernacles for Christians held in En-Gedi, the Dead Sea, on September 30, 2012. This event hosts delegates from countries from all over the world to meet in a spirit of unity, to celebrate the Feast of Tabernacles, to worship God and to address world Christian issues and pray over them. 2012's theme was taken from Zecharaiah 12:10, "The Spirit of Grace and Supplication."
When Angus Buchan was speaking, a miracle happened reminiscent of Acts chapter two. There were over 4,500 people at the event who witnessed God's affirmation and power. The first several chapters of the book provides us with a background of the Feast of the Tabernacles, a brief purpose of the Christian Embassy, a description of the events, testimony from several delegates who were there, and a heart-felt follow-up from Mr. Buchan on what he believes we can take from this experience. The book is uplifting and encouraging.
One of the things that's important to me when I read Christian non-fiction is to determine whether the book has established a firm foundation: the foundation being salvation through trust in Jesus Christ alone for reconciliation with God, the Father. When the foundation is firmly established in teaching books like this, then I look at whether the foundation is being built upon, using good material. I search to see if growth is encouraged through sound teaching from the Bible. Are readers urged to practice what they are taught? Are people led to maturity in their faith in the Lord, and in their walk with the Holy Spirit? Are they shown how to reach out to others in love? And finally, I observe to see if they are taught to be obedient to God in fulfilling His directive to tell others about the Lord Jesus Christ "unto the ends of the world." Additionally, I look to see if the truth is being diluted or if believers are being distracted by something that could be good on its own merit but may be misused, overemphasized or under-emphasized.
In my opinion, this book demonstrates sound teaching from the Bible. "The Holy Spirit is regarded as a mirror. He reflects the glory of God. He will not try to take the place of Jesus; He is Jesus in the Spirit. This forms the Holy Trinity: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The three are one and yet they are different entities." The author does not emphasize one over the other as more important. He didn't overemphasize or misuse the working of the Holy Spirit. Instead his book encourages us to develop an anticipation toward revival all around the world.
The author teaches others to teach others. One of the results of the modern day miracle of En-Gedi in 2012 was the creation of a new ministry that God led Mr. Buchan to begin: the Mighty Men Conferences. Part two of this book covers the exciting adventure God led the author through this ministry. People were being encouraged to mature in their faith in the Lord and in their walk with the Holy Spirit. The men returned home to become leaders in their own communities.
One powerful demonstration of leading others to reach out in love, was the story the author told about a special meeting in a city where there was labor unrest. The meeting went along as planned, there were no outbreaks in the stadium, and after the meeting where Mr. Buchan prayed for workers to give their all to their jobs and families, preached reconciliation, many people went back to work, and the entire work atmosphere changed positively. God can work in our hearts toward a spirit of cooperation and peace if we listen to Him.
I especially enjoyed the third part of this short 191-page book in which Mr. Buchan gives us an overview of some historical revivals from all over the world, a Welsh revival, an Indonesian revival and others. It reminded me that we need to keep praying for a revival right where we live as well as in our country and around the world.

Our God is alive and well and doing His work through the Holy Spirit. It is easy for us to read the Bible and forget that what God did then, He can and still will do. We know that our God is a Three-In-One God, and will often hear messages, sermons, and Bible studies on God the father, and God the Son, but how often do we hear about the Holy Spirit?
This book taught clearly about the Feast of Tabernacles, where it was held, weather conditions, location and more, so we the reader could more fully understand what happened, and in some way experience the miracle that took place that day. Although not present, 4 000+ people could not be wrong, and there is no way this revelation of the Holy Spirit could be considered anything but. Nothing human can explain what happened that day.
Dr. Jurgen Buhler tells Angus just prior to Anugs heading on stage, "We have been praying and fasting for this even for a long time; we are believing God for a wind of change"..."I was also told by the director of the International Christian Embassy..that they had prayed that when Jurgen Buhler stood on the stage, the wind would blow so hard that his trousers would flap. None of us had any idea how prophetic those statements would be. Jurgen's trousers were almost blown off his body!" pg. 31
The writing of Angus Buchan makes you feel as if one is right there, that we can feel the wind, the swirling of things around, the stage equipment being knocked over, the fear and anxiousness of those in attendance and many of the other feelings one might feel in a tornado, except this is different.
Do you believe that our God of yesterday, is the same today and tomorrow? Do you have faith? Do you truly believe that the Holy Spirit is alive and well and at work?
"If there is one prayer that I pray now, it is to ask the Lord Jesus to increase our faith and to believe for the impossible. As we know, faith is 'the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen" (Hebrews 11:1) pg. 37
He also highlights some other revivals from history that will make us realize this is not a new thing, but we must believe, be ready and waiting, and in His time.
The Dedication of this book says it all:
"For those men and women who wish to live more than just an average Christian life; who make themselves available to experiencing the majesty of our Lord Jesus Christ though the Holy Spirit.
'I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.' John 10:10"

“When well-known author and evangelist angus Buchan was invited to speak at the Feat of Tabernacles, a yearly celebration held in Israel’s Ein-Gedi Desert, nothing could have prepared him for the miraculous events that were about to take place.”
In A Rushing Mighty Wind the Author, Angus Buchan, brings us the story of the events that surrounded the Feast of Tabernacles Celebration that was held at Ein-Gedi Desert in Israel on September 30, 2012. But it’s not just a story, it a re-telling of actual events and the manifestation of the Holy Spirit at that event and ushering in the tangible presence of God during that time. This presence of God helps to remind all of us that God is not just an historical figure that we read about… no, He is more than that. He is real, and alive and at work in each of our lives day in and day out and He is with each of us always.
Mr. Buchan is a master at describing the events to the point that you feel as though you were there too. (and after reading the book, I wish I was!)
Read this book and be inspired and be obedient. Know that God has so much more in story for you than what you might be experiencing right now.
About the Author: Angus Buchan is a farmer in South Africa whose profound faith has carried him through many crises both professional and personal. He shot to international attention in the wake of the book and film Faith Like Potatoes. He has filled the largest stadia in South Africa to capacity and spoken to large gatherings around the world. Angus continues his work as an international evangelist but is perhaps best known for The Mighty Men Conference, which gathers over 200,000 Christian men.

A Rushing Mighty Wind begins as an account of the 2012 En-Gedi, Israel, annual Feast of Tabernacles. It was a gathering of 4500 individuals seeking to honor God for His work throughout the history of the Jewish nation. Angus Buchan, farmer evangelist was asked to speak and began with the Scripture on the happening of Pentecost. The Spirit of God came upon the people in a "mighty, rushing wind" and the lives of individuals were changed. Repentance, reconciliation and revival were evident. Buchan speaks of the third part of the Trinity as "our Lord Holy Spirit"; he knows the Advocate, Friend and Comforter in a very personal manner. The author has written this book not only to share the happenings of the Holy Spirit at En-Gedi and other places during history but also to invite Christ followers to have a fresh hunger for the Holy Spirit to supernaturally move in our lives. He encourages readers to know revival, i.e., to be saturated with God, as defined by John Wesley. Buchan reminds readers there are common elements to revival, the first being repentance, change from sinful doing. Prayer and worshiping God in Spirit and in truth are outgrowths of this repentance. And ultimately the fruit of revival will change communities. A Rushing Mighty Wind reminds the reader that God wants to use His people in mighty ways if they will just allow Him to work in and through their lives. Buchan recounts the work of God in the Mighty Men Conferences that were held for a number of years, noting 'we need to take action if we expect the Holy Spirit to use us.' Belivers cannot be bystanders. This is an encouraging eyewitness account of the work of God the Holy Spirit in the lives of everyday men as they yield to Him and step out in faith to no longer be a spectator but an instrument that God can use to change hearts and lives. A great moment where God showed up that wasn’t wasted. That’s what A Rushing Mighty Wind is about. I got this book thinking it would be a great story about a special miracle, focusing on the events at the Feast of Tabernacles. To begin with, I hadn’t even heard of this special celebration and was fascinated by that! A coming together of believers from every nation in the holy land to honor one of the feasts from great Jewish tradition is almost a miracle in itself. Then to hear of a miraculous mighty wind and rain in the desert boggles the mind. But, that’s not the good part of the book! Don’t get me wrong, that was a fascinating read. And I was a little bothered when the author, Angus Buchan, seemed to change topics only a short way into the book. But, God had a different plan for this book.
This book is an intimate look into the relationship between God and a humble servant. Angus so openly shares what God has taught him and how that has changed his life. In such a simple way, Angus challenges and encourages you the reader to get more real in your life with God. I think even a person that didn’t know Jesus as their savior would feel that encouragement to make that a real part of their life. There is no harshness to his manner, just a matter of fact telling of what’s real, regardless what you think. My attitude toward my own devotion time has been improved and reinvigorated.
Don’t skimp at the end, either, as he shares history of past revivals. It is such a great picture of how there is nothing new under the sun. Topics people were dealing with in the 1800’s are relevant today. I don’t often mark pages in books, but this book is marked in the margins and pages are dog eared! This is a great read even if you don’t sit and read it straight through. This is an encouraging book that may be better absorbed in chunks. But don’t stop! I can’t wait to read this through a second time to get even more nuggets of wisdom!

Review Title: Know the Holy Spirit Lively in Possibilities (review of A Rushing Mighty Wind by Angus Buchan) Reviewer: Janice S. Garey ***** 5 Stars
Mighty is our God when He chooses to reveal Himself. I expected to receive a bit more knowledge of the most neglected personality of our Three-in-One God, but I had no idea of how much and how strongly the Spirit has been felt at various times throughout history. This small but powerful book tells of the author's direct experience of answered prayer through the revealing of the Spirit's activity during a particular event. The wind blew in from every direction, and rain fell in an area that a tour guide had led tours through for thirty years and had never experienced such weather conditions. The weather created a fire from wiring that tangled. Wind, rain, and fire appeared together totally unexpected. It was miraculous in the eyes of all the attendees. I am so glad to have read this eye witness account because this would not be reported in the mainline news. But truly, this is more important than the normal daily earthly news. It is off the radar of the general public.
I also appreciate that in the back of the book there are accounts of other similar happenings at other times and places. It is like a history book of sorts of the supernatural manifestation of the Holy Spirit and how it affected lives for transformation and restoration. May we all be in prayer after reading this inspirational book because that is the first priority for stirring up the Spirit to move in a location. Our nation and the world is in desperate need for a new stirring...

The days of miracles is not over according to Angus Buchan. The Feast of Tabernacles in 2012 was held at En-Gedi in the Judean Desert near the Dead Sea. It is a time to honor God for bringing the Israelites safely on their forty-year journey from Egypt into Canaan. A farmer/preacher, Angus Buchan, spoke for the event. The previous year, Buchan challenged the congregation with his passion for revival with greater expectations for the supernatural. In this book, Angus offers a recounting of the 2012 events. His first sermon was on Acts 2:4 about the disciples receiving the Holy Spirit and the change this brought in their lives and the church. Buchan shares this modern-day miraculous event when the people witnessed a mighty rushing wind in this windless desert and a storm with rain in a place where it does not rain. These signs accompanied a mighty outpouring of God’s power spread across the congregation throughout the week, which effected change in the hearers. Four and a half thousand believers from all parts of the world gathered nightly to witness miracles and a move of the Holy Spirit to bring unity and reconciliation. Buchan also recounts numerous historical revivals. Buchan challenged believers to seek God. He reports that God uses ordinary people, giving them power by the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s work on earth. I thoroughly enjoyed reading Buchan’s easy style of writing.
Faith-building encounters This is a “handbook” describing one man’s encounter with the Holy Spirit during a revival meeting. He describes the miraculous manifestation that he, and the others in attendance, experienced in great detail. There is supportive documentation from other people. The book then goes on to guide the reader in how to better live a life in God and how to recognize when God and the Holy Spirit send you signs through your experiences. I like the references he uses with nature – what better way to explain God’s workings than through His extraordinary natural wonders and creations. I also liked the bible references that are used throughout the book as they help to center his thoughts and give me something to research further if I want. This would be a great book to read in a book club or Sunday school class as it would generate some in depth discussions. The book builds on the initial experience by using testimonies from others as well as parallel experiences. There are chapters on other revivals and their experiences that show the Holy Spirit at work through others. You never know when you might encounter such an experience yourself. I received this book from BookFun.org in exchange for my honest review
A Rushing, Mighty Wind by Angus Buchan was a great read. I loved the encounter of the revival that he spoke about but I loved the entire book, start to finish because of his candid description of how God used him throughout his life, in different ways throughout different periods but the main theme was “God using him for however long, in whatever capacity.” When the plans are God’s nothing will stop them and when the plan is not something God wants to see fulfilled, nothing will make it happen.
When I closed this book I was encouraged, inspired, and ready to obey God in whatever capacity He wanted to use me. I realized I didn’t have to be some famous international speaker, I don’t have to have a fabulous, highly influential job - nope, if God wants to use me right where I am, then I’m ready to be used.
This book is great for all ages - everyone who truly has a desire to obey God and serve Him wherever they are in life. I loved it and have already been telling my friends and family about it.

A Rushing Mighty Wind By Angus Buchan Publ: Monarch Books c.2014
Angus Buchan was present for, and a part of, the miraculous outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the En-Gedi Desert of Israel during the Feast of Tabernacles in 2012. In this book he gives a first-hand account of this miracle; then he goes on to tell how this move of God impacted his life and the lives of others. Angus offers the reader a view of the work of the Holy Spirit in his life. He also looks at the first revival in the Upper Room in Acts 2 and subsequent revivals. The effects of these revivals on the lives of those who were part of them are examined to show the necessity of being open to any move of God. Angus encourages the reader to seek a deeper relationship with God and embrace a full day-by-day walk in His presence. Read this book if you want to learn about an amazing move of God in our time and to prepare to be a part of God’s move in these last days. It is well worth the time and effort to read it.

A Rushing Mighty Wind by Angus Buchan starts out by describing his experience in September 2012 at the Feast of the Tabernacles in Israel's Ein-Gedi desert. The book shares his experience and the experiences of others who attended the event. But, the book goes beyond that to tell what was happening in Mr. Buchan's life years before Ein-Gedi. He shares about how he obeyed God in all areas of his life. How he stopped traveling, and ended a thriving ministry because God asked him to. The book is also an excellent resource of Revivals of the past. It shares the history and personal experiences of those saints. His story made me look at my own life and want to listen to God, be obedient, and pray for revival. I can highly recommend this book. I received a copy of this book through The Book Club Network (bookfun.org) in exchange for my honest review.
The book A Rushing Mighty Wind tells of one mans encounter with the Holy Spirit. The first several chapters deal with his experience at a revival at the dead sea. He explains in detail how the events unfolded that day.
The next part of the book talks about obeying and being open to the Holy Spirit in our lives. And, the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit in our times.
The book comes to a close talking about revivals from the past, from the 1860's - 1960's, and the very first revival.
His enthusiasm and love for God and the Holy Spirit is contagious. The book challenges you to be open to being led by the Holy Spirit.
