Francis Porcher was given the task to write this book by the Confederate States Surgeon General and it was originally published in 1863 in the Confederate States of America. Also includes the useful properties of trees, plants and shrubs.

Of course, I haven't read the book cover to cover...but I do use it as a resource. As an herbalist, I find it to be useful for history of plant usage in the Deep South. Sometimes the plant profiles are informative and sometimes they are lacking. I'm still glad I purchased a copy.
