This is a lovely book to sit and work through. I enjoy art and like to try different techniques. I also have an interest in nature and how you can benefit from slowing your life down to appreciate it. This book, Draw Your Own Mantra by Phe Johnson, appealed to me greatly.
This is the sort of book you can use in a variety of ways, depending on your own beliefs, and what you want to take away from the book. For me, it is a way of slowing down, appreciating what is in front of me and also enjoying something that I can create. Then, using these techniques, go beyond the book and outside to create some of my own nature-inspired drawings.
The book is laid out well, the author takes the reader through different mediums (paints) techniques, equipment and each stage is explained. It is a gentle explanation, and the whole feel of the book feels gentle, welcoming and accepting.
There are things that you can do that work towards creating various mantra mood boards. This is something that you can again create and use as a personal development mantra or for the art itself. Either way, it is up to you. I did feel there was a nice lead to each project.
This is a very nice book, and I really enjoyed taking things back to the basics with the artwork. Creating simple designs, drawings and images rather than the usual busy and sometimes chaotic pictures I often create.
I have already read through the book and am now restarting it to work through the techniques and projects.
This is a very nice book, it does have a calming effect, it is practical and does give you a positive boost as you create images through the prompts. I would be very happy to recommend this book.
