Ragrim Explorations #1

Trapped with the Alien Transporter

Rate this book
I thought hiring an alien transport to get me off Earth would be the end of my problems, not the start of them. But that’s exactly what happens when my original pilot is a no-show, and the new one considers himself an expert on humans and is more familiar with me than I’d prefer. Hsinth wants something, but I’m not sure that in my pants is it.

When our ship crashes in the snow-strewn wasteland of an ancient battleground and pushes my carefully constructed plans off-course, most of my patience goes out the iced-over window. I suppose this could be considerably worse, but my pushy companion is reptilian. He can’t make his own body heat. That might take the rest of it.

Add in things outside the ship with far too much fur and teeth for comfort, and this is very much not a winter fantasy pit stop. With the ship’s systems failing and me as Hsinth’s only source of warmth, things are about to get very cozy, very fast.

Trapped with the Alien Transporter is a steamy standalone in the Ragrim Explorations standalone series. HEA Guaranteed, No Cheating, No Cliffhangers.

I truly enjoyed being back in the universe Nessa Claugh has created with humans, Lukrimians and many other aliens. This was my fifth book by the author and takes place 20 years after the events of Ragrim Conflict series books 1-4.

Ophelia has dreamt of leaving Earth for ages and after finally saving up enough, she booked a small space ship to take her from Earth to Ysenys, a human colony where humans and hybrid human-lukrimians settled after The Lie was exposed in Ragrim Conflict series. Ophelia is in her later 30s if I calculated her age correctly and she has autism which gives her some extra challenges, especially when nothing is going as she very meticulously planned. The pilot Hasila she booked has been swapped for Hasila’s brother Hsinth, who is enthusiastic about humans and making it as a trader. He is keen to find new trade routes and getting to know humans and what they might want on their new colony. Ophelia on the other hand is not so keen in getting to know him as she is trying to keep her anxieties at bay due to all the changes in her travel plans. As Hsinth has no idea what autism is, he does not pick up on this and is just confused why this human is so different from the humans he has met before.

Things go from bad to worse for Ophelia when their ship is hit by solar flares and they crash on an ice planet. It turns into pure survival mode as the space ship is slowly cooling down to dangerous levels while they wait and hope for rescue. In desperation they turn one bedroom into a massive blanket fort to stay warm and alive. It does not help that Hsinth is from reptilian species and cannot regulate his temperature, needing lot of closeness from Ophelia. As they are forced to be close and direct and honest with each other over many days and even weeks, Ophelia and Hsinth get closer and more intimate. I felt that their relationship development was organic and Hsinth was so sweet and understanding once Ophelia was honest with him about her struggles. Similarly Hsinth had to become open and vulnerable with Ophelia as he was a virgin and awkward about his constant erections around her.

Third act breakup was understandable in my opinion although I am usually not a fan of miscommunication trope. But as they both struggled with just voicing their insecurities and what they really wanted, I could understand this. I wish the book had been longer because I would have loved to spend more time with them on Ysenys. Also, the three mysterious brothers who saved them from the ice planet, I so hope they might be future MMCs in Nessa’s future books cos I could sense some good alien MMC potential in their secretive and troubled souls!

I enjoyed the author’s way of writing the story and her world building. I have not read the two novellas in the universe yet, but highly enjoyed the other books in the Ragrim Conflict series.

Ophelia has everything all planned out. She's taking a private transport to the human colony on Ysenys-IV-G, where she's starting a new export job. Unfortunately, her carefully thought out plans unravel quickly when her original pilot fails to meet her. Her new pilot, Hsinth, is impertinent and nosy, and he clearly wants Ophelia to give him a hint of new trading opportunities. She immediately dislikes him. Unluckily, their transport ship is hit with solar flares and crashes on a barren, snowy wasteland. Now the two must work together to survive as they wait for rescue.

Ophelia is an interesting character. She is autistic and is triggered quite a bit by mess and disorder. She overreacts somewhat to Hsinth's pushy mannerisms, but she has enough introspection to realize when she might be being reactionary. Despite her differences, she is still very relatable with her emphasis on plans and order. Hsinth, meanwhile, is well meaning but brash. He likes humans and he wants Ophelia to feel comfortable with him. Once she explains her own personal issues, he goes out of his way to help meet her needs and try to avoid triggering her.

Trapped with the Alien Transporter is a sweet alien romance that develops from forced proximity and survival. Ophelia and Hsinth are fun to read about, though their physical intimacy seemed to develop somewhat abruptly. An overall fun read within an exciting intergalactic world.

We have Ophelia, who is leaving Earth for a new start and when her pilot does not show, but sends her brother instead, Ophelia is less than pleased. She tries her best ignore the pilot, but when the ship crashes on an ice planet, they have only each other to keep warm. 😏

I liked that the author represented a neurodivergent FMC. Ophelia has autism, which impacts how she navigates her life, like sensory sensitivities and need for order. Hsinth, MMC, was kind, understanding and would go out of his way to support her the moment he knew of her autism. He is definitely the sunshine out of the two, and broke down Ophelia's walls of keeping people at arms length.

The book had some pacing problems for me, and their relationship felt like a flipped switch. I wanted to see a better development between the FMC and MMC, and better tension. I didn't expect too much from the plot since it is a shorter book, but some parts were skipped too fast, or dragged out entirely too long.

Nothing is incredibly unique about the book, but if you like alien romance, this is a worthy read that can be read in one sitting.

Tropes:
☑️ Dual POV’s
☑️ Neurodivergent Representation
☑️ Crashed on planet
☑️ Insta-Lovey
☑️ Virgin MMC
☑️ Grumpy/Sunshine (FMC the grump)
☑️ One Bed
☑️ HEA

This is a new author to me. Her writing style was different than what I normally read, but I got use to it fairly quickly. There were a few sentences I had to re read a couple of times to get its meaning.

I liked both MCs. Ophelia with her autism was also unique . I loved all of the ways, once Hsinth realized Ophelia was different than the "normal" human , he tried to make her comfortable, safe and welcomed.

Hsinth was a likable alien. The way they met was fun to read. He was determined, she ws defiant.

I loved that she was the one to save him .

This is a standalone with a wonderful HEA. There is steam to the eventual romance. Action throughout. Some suspense. I liked the chemistry between the two.

I personally picked up this book based on the cover because it absolutely fits the genre. You know what you’re getting into with sci-fi romance when you take a look at it. What I was pleasantly surprised about though was finding a fleshed out universe to match the fleshed out man on the cover. Claugh does an excellent job of weaving in different races into the conversations, setting up an entire overarching storyline for the background of (what I assume to be) her other novels, and providing the reader with plenty of information to sink their teeth into. All while making sure to not be overwhelming forward. (We all know those authors where you’re skimming cause it’s information overload.)

Beyond world building I got exactly what I came for. A spicy little romance that matches the blurb about being trapped and finding comfort within each other. The enemies to lovers vibe I was looking for was low key instead of a valiant attempt throughout so that’s not what you’re getting here. But the exploration of alien anatomy and the tie in to the idea of pressure to help with controlling and regulating emotions was well and truly explored. It was an interesting approach with a neurodivergent female lead and shows the author did research or has some personal experience on the subject.

The author also did research on another topic that the FMC is highly passionate about which was an interesting side plot. While I don’t want to go into detail cause it will get this yoinked I absolutely was not expecting the extracurricular activities that she was into.

Overall the pacing started out fine, got a little rushed in the middle, and then slowed down at the end again where it felt that the exploration of the new location was more of a set up for the next book in the series. Still I had a great time and ran through this one in a few hours. The writing style was excellent, and prose well done, so that helped solidify my rating. I will happily pick up the next one in the series to see where else the author can take the colony we get to see and the possible avenue for the three alien men that I’m hoping make the cut for the next venture.

This is my first Nessa Claugh book and the first time I have listened to Alien/Sci-fi Romance and I have to say I was so impressed,I Loved it.
I was initially worried that I wouldn't be able to understand what was going on because of all the unusual names and places etc..But Nessa has such a good imagination I was wowed and I did manage to keep up with the dynamics of this world she has created.
Ophelia is human being transported to another colony but the pilot who was meant to take her there was not the female she was expecting.
The Pilot was Male a reptilian alien Hsinth who she does not gel with straight away they seem to argue about everything.
Then they crashed onto an Ice planet stranded together as the temperatures kept plummeting and they needed eachothers bodies to keep warm.
Being in close proximity like this, they started to get to know eachother properly and intimately too which was super HOT !!
I love the fact Ophelia is Autistic being on the spectrum myself I completely understood about all the quirks that Ophelia had.The way she was sensitive to sounds, and touch and her need to be in a routine and the meltdowns when she couldn't wash and feel clean.I felt akin to Ophelia.
I LOved Hsinth because he was so understanding even though autism wasn't a thing he knew about he wanted to learn...I loved his innocence.
But when they get rescued what would happen to their new romance,Ophelia had fallen hard for Hsinth and now she would never see him again.
This book was really well written and Perfectly Narrated by Anastasia Lynne who told the story solo..So she performed all the male and female characters and I think she did an excellent job.I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her.
Well Nessa Claugh you may have started a new obsession because I definately want to read/listen to more Alien/Sci-fi romance.
A Fantastic story.
Brilliant.

Ophelia, the female human lead, knows she’s autistic and has been making accommodations for it her whole life. Now moving to another planet because Earth is too crowded and busy for her brain, she’s thrown into a tailspin by her pilot not being the person she originally booked.

Hsinth, the male alien lead, took the job his sister couldn’t get to, planning to extract information from his fare to help him establish a new trading partner. But this human is not anywhere near as approachable as he understood humans to be…

Then, as they travel into a new part of space, a flare causes Hsinth’s ship to malfunction and they are forced to land on an ice planet. With life support functions barely operating and no known time of rescue, they need to work together to survive, even if they don’t quite get along…

This story is dual POV, well written and edited, and a sweet and steamy, alien/human, survival on an ice planet, forced proximity romance with an autistic female lead character. I enjoyed the depiction of Ophelia, finding it accurate, and appreciated the work she put into making life suitable for her. I enjoyed the way Ophelia challenged Hsinth to confront his prejudices. I enjoyed Hsinth’s grudging acceptance of Ophelia’s challenge, and his compassionate response to her stress reactions when they were not able to proceed as planned. I enjoyed the relationship development, including the intimate scenes.

Crashed on the Icy Planet . . .

Ophelia has carefully planned her journey. She has hired a private alien transport to take her to a human colony where she will reside and begin her new export job. But the pilot she hired doesn’t show up and she needs to accept Hsinth as a replacement who can be a bit annoying. When their ship, damaged by solar flares, crashes onto a snow-filled wasteland with dangerous wildlife, it becomes a matter of survival that they learn to cooperate. Hsinth is at an immediate disadvantage because, with the ship damaged and not fully working, it cannot adequately provide for his cold-blooded reptilian nature which cannot generate its own body heat, putting him at risk of freezing. This means he will need to rely on the close proximity of his and Ophelia’s bodies in order for him to keep warm. And once he understands the issues that become “triggers” for her, and her need for planning and order in her world, he is quick to do what he can to meet those needs and keep her as comfortable as he can. Cooperation is essential. With the dangers outside the ship, they have only each other to rely on. Can they survive until help comes? Will their learning to trust each other let them fall in love?

Trapped with the Alien Transporter was a good story and my first by author Nessa Claugh.

MFC Ophelia Platt has arranged transport off Earth and to the moon Ysenys-IV-G for a new job opportunity. When her pilot turns out to be the brother of the original hired one and his ship the Engsth looks as though it might not make it into space she begins to have doubts.

MMC Hsinth has taken over the transport because his sister ran into some difficulties and couldn’t. Ophelia intrigues him but doesn’t seem as friendly as other humans he has met which has him curious as to what her story is.

Things take a turn for the worse when they encounter a solar flare that sends the ship hurtling towards an ice planet, not a welcome place for his Geshallan species who have reptilian attributes and don’t do well in the cold.

After crashing and while waiting for rescue is really where they begin to get to know each other which leads to romance, and spice, amidst avoiding the dangerous wildlife.

I enjoyed this very well written narrative, it’s world building, and engaging characters who made this an entertaining Sci-Fi Romantic read.

Ophelia (h) had planned for a fresh start on a distant colony world, not to get stranded on an icy planet with a cold-blooded alien pilot who barely knows how to make small talk. Hsinth (H), her reluctant Geshallan transporter, isn’t exactly her ideal travel companion, but as survival forces them closer, Ophelia finds herself drawn to his quiet strength. Fighting freezing temperatures and dwindling hope, their unlikely partnership turns into something more as they navigate the dangers of the harsh landscape—and each other’s guarded hearts, even as things heat up between the two. But Ophelia wonders if their connection is just a product of circumstance or can their survival bond be the start of something real. Hot and steamy alien-human romance, exploring love, connection, survival, commitment, opening up, and taking chances.

Trapped with the Alien Transporter was quite entertaining, interesting, and an absolutely enjoyable to read. Author. Nessa Claugh has done a remarkable job with the way she created and wrote this amazing alien romance book. This is the first book that I have read by this author and she did not disappoint with this remarkable alien romance whatsoever. I absolutely enjoyed getting to know the main characters and seeing their story unfolding throughout the book. This is definitely an alien romance book that I would definitely recommend for anyone who enjoys reading alien romances. I went into this not having read the other Ragrim books but I wasn't lost at all. I could follow what was going on as enough background was given (I looked up the other books after finishing). The characters were really enjoyable! I love how the FMC isn't trying to "escape" some rough past or someone and is just looking to make a positive life change. It felt more real and relatable. And our MMC is such a cinnamon roll! They work so well together and have a great dynamic. Overall, this was a fun short read!

This was a sweet and steamy romance that brought together Ophelia and Hsinth. She's looking for a new start and he's looking for a new trading partner. Their crash on an icy planet really messed things up for them...or did it? Lol! I love that the author had Ophelia as autistic, adding a challenge to how she would cope with getting thrown off her plan. Hsinth had some prejudices about humans and she sure challenged him on those. I did enjoy that he was patient with her stress reactions. These two had great chemistry. Expect an engaging read with action, some suspense and steam as they work their way to a wonderful HEA. Good fun!

This is my first time reading from this author ,her writing style is a bit different and left me struggling at some points.

I liked the way she built her characters, Ophelia has dealt all her life with her autism, her awkwardness and dificulties to fit.

Hsinth was a likable alien. The way they met was fun to read. He was determined, she was defiant.

When they crash and are snowed in,it's her who saves him with her body heat.

Witch leads to sexy times when she finds his very diferent ….bits.

At some point I found the narrative was rushed to prejudice of the plot.

This Book 1 in The Ragrim Explorations Book Series has a Sci-Fi Romance story, a well-crafted world, and intriguing characters. These characters have unique personalities, complicated histories and believable interactions. This story has the following: Female heading to a new job, not the pilot she hired, crash-landed on frozen planet, shared body heat, action-packed, twists, turns, attraction, love and HEA.

Loved the narration of Anastasia Lynne, who brings out the drama, angst, humour, characters and heat.

Female human Ophelia is being transported to another colony the pilot was to be female but is a not. It is a male a reptilian alien. The two do not get on, both disagreeing about everything. When they crashed onto an Ice planet stranded together. When the temperatures keeps dropping, they find the only way to keep warm is with each other bodies.
This is fast paced action packed drama.

The story was pretty good, although both of the characters were kind of dumb at times. There was way too much focus on the woman's mental problems, in my opinion. The narrator at first seemed to be trying too hard, but I got used to her. Overall, it was entertaining.

Bro is Zuck style a lizard man. He gets cold and shoots wacky polar bears. Of course the mc has whatever whatever (insert mildly traumatic backstory). They’re forced to proximity so hard cause it’s too cold outside. You can guess what happens, don’t expect a deep story, my fellow gooners.
