Doors are being closed in their faces and society is snubbing them. Lucinda and Thea are experiencing the most baffling difficulties and all efforts to rectify the mounting problems they encounter meet with dismal failure, leaving them no choice but to think someone has targeted them with the intention of putting them out of business.
Determined to survive the onslaught of malicious gossip that threatens to ruin their lives and livelihood, they set out to discover who is behind the persistent sabotaging. In the process, they become the prime suspects in a murder investigation and must untangle themselves with the help of Huntley Clarke, who has acquired a taste for sleuthing. However, it seems not even his growing influence can save them. Especially when they discover the secrets they have unknowingly been hiding. It really is too late for the society sleuths.
Really like these two sleuths! They are interesting and fun. This book was a little less satisfying as some of the clues were repetitive, and the reader was not privy to enough of the information to solve or even be surprised by the solution. Changes in the flow were a bit abrupt. But, I do look forward to the next installment in the lives of Thea and Lucinda.
Sonia Parin has several series of cozy mysteries. All are very good period mysteries. This one features two young women living in the London of the Roaring Twenties. They have thinking processes that complement each other. I enjoy their banter as well as their relationship with their unconventional butler and housekeeper/maid. I hope the series continues.
