Max Rumble Soccer Knockout written by Michael Wagner and illustrated by Terry Denton bears no resemblance to a real soccer knockout tournament that I have ever seen but for sheer enjoyment and comedy which will have young boys rolling on the floor with laughter it really can’t be beaten.

Max Rumble and his team, The Saints, are losing the soccer knockout because the other team, The Crawlies, all who have names of well-known geniuses, have a secret team member, Peli!

At half time The Crawlies team of “mega-brains”, captained by Benny Franklin and with the help of Peli are up 3, nil. How the Saints led by Max, outsmarts the geniuses and wins is hilarious.

The book is fast paced, full of action words and phrases and has young modern touch that “smart little dudes” will easily relate to; the ending will have them all “high-fiving”.

This book also has words and phrases printed in bold and emphasized in different script to help young children reading aloud to easily identify where they can add drama to their reading.
