This was an excellent read. Michael Brown addressed more than Love Canal in terms of toxic waste and its improper disposal or repurposing.

this was the classic scare, that as a kid had me looking for 55 gallon drums in my backyard. Later on as an adult I could see through the hysteria and noted that the problems at Love Canal were set in motion by the city of Niagra Falls
