Lottie Sprigg accompanies her employer on an idyllic break at a coastal country estate. But events take a turn when a body is found in a boathouse. The nearby village of Sherborne-on-Sea has some quirky characters - but is one of them capable of murder?
With the help of her four-legged companion, Rosie, Lottie begins investigating. But someone in the village doesn't want an outsider poking her nose in...
While Lottie Sprigg is solving mysteries with her beloved corgi, Rosie, I like curling up by the fire with a good book and a mug of hot chocolate. I love reading mysteries as much as I enjoy writing them, nothing beats the puzzle of a whodunnit! I hope you decide to join Lottie on her adventures to Venice, Milan, Paris and many more!

"Murder in the Bay" continues Lottie Sprigg's mystery-solving adventures at English country houses.
Lottie, Rosie and Mrs Moore are staying with an old friend at a grand house with its own private beach on the rugged coast of England. As usual, there are murders and Lottie and Mrs Moore can't resist investigating. Another great adventure which had me guessing back and forth between various suspects all the way until the end. Lots of suspicious characters populate the village and Rosie, the corgi, gets a new friend.
The descriptions of the coastal village, harbor and rocky headlands make the book interesting and atmospheric. I love all the Lottie Sprigg books and I highly recommend this one.
As I wrote in an earlier review, I greatly enjoyed the Lottie Sprigg sagas which took place as she traveled through Europe and Cairo. However, I found her England-based stories to be superficial, with solutions suddenly dropped into the end with little foreshadowing for the reader.
This story harkens back to the quality of the European travel adventures, with much detail, great plot development, and I found it to be a wonderful surprise considering the other England books.
I greatly enjoyed the writing, I shared Lottie’s confusion as she struggled with the facts, must contradictory, and I found the denouement with all the suspects to be extremely well done.
Thank you Ms Bond for returning Lottie to her detecting roots.
This can be read as a stand alone mystery very nicely; however when read in conjunction with both the Country House series and the Travel series the reader is able to follow the wonderful development of both Lottie and Mrs. Moore. Their characters are delightful and pair well with each other in the solving of each mystery! There are a number of red herrings and a few unexpected surprises that you will enjoy! Honestly, anything that Martha Bond, or her other author name of Emily Organ, writes is going to be a superior read! I've loved every one of them and am waiting with great anticipation for the next adventure in any of the series!
Wow, Mrs Moore's friend was less than pleasant *laughs*
Of course, that doesn't make her murder less heinous although it makes it harder to find the culprit with so many injured parties around.
And this time I wasn't even close to finding the killer, I completely missed the mark! Luckily, this wasn't the case for Lottie whose sharp mind could cut through all the lies and omissions cluttering her efforts.
And I really hope she'll find the words to answer that letter and get closer to solving the mystery of her own life.
Murder in the Bay is the fourth novel in a series featuring Mrs. Moore, an American living in 1920s England, her companion, Lottie Sprigg and Lottie’s corgi, Rosie. Mrs. Moore is invited to visit an old friend at the seashore, so Mrs. Moore, Lottie, and Rosie head to visit Lady Florence Cavendish at the seaside. A murder occurs and Lottie and Mrs. Moore begin to investigate an entire village that seems to have not been fond of Lady Cavendish. This novel has interesting characters and subplots that keep the reader engaged until the surprising conclusion.
The Lottie Spriggs books are just candy: light, sweet, quickly dissolved. The characters are rather two-dimensional and the stories themselves just a touch preposterous. Nevertheless, they are fun, and a great way to pass a rainy afternoon. Of the several I've read in the series, I thought this one was actually the best. There was just a touch more reality to most of the characters, and the story was a bit more involved and believable. Perhaps three and a half-stars, actually.
Lottie must weave her way through a massive amount of duplicity to solve this one. Those who might be guilty are apparently innocent, and what possible reason might others have to be guilty? As she and Mrs. Moore continue the stay that was meant to be a holiday, things just get worse. Yet do they dare leave before the killer is unmasked? Ms. Bond has created another edge of the seat mystery. I love it.
Lottie and Rosie are on the hunt to find the murderer at this mansion on the rugged coast of England. The characters are well written. The story a puzzle as to who did the dirty deed. A charming addition to this series. Entertaining and enjoyable as are all these stories. Don't miss out. Highly Recommended.
Normally I don’t like stories with so many characters but this book the characters were needed for this story. It was easy to follow and I enjoyed it very much. Can’t wait for the next book.
Lottie Sprigg’s and Mrs Moore once again did not let me down. They truly entertained me with their sleuthing and storytelling. LoL I Love reading about their adventures. This mystery was quite the story though. It is really a Great page turner.
Lottie and Mrs Moore are at it again. So many twists and turns. Little figures it out in the end. I never saw it coming...which is o e of the reasons I enjoy this author. Is little going to contact her mother? Next book!!
This seaside murder mystery is full of twists and turns. It's a good who dunnit with a variety of characters who are likely suspects, until you learn all their secrets.
There weren't characters that I could relate to. Too many secrets, lies, naivety, and shallowness for me to rate it higher. Although the loud American seems to have matured some.
This is the 4th Lottie Sprigs mystery and I have enjoyed them all. The story was very interesting and it was really hard trying to decide who the murderer was. Most of the characters had a valid reason for committing murder.
This book is lacking in many ways. I got as far as Chapter 24 and couldn't force myself to read further. There is no historical fiction involved, and the characters are flat.
Very interesting story line. So many surprises in the plot and the outcome of who did what. Never expected some of the surprises so expect to be startled.
