Go to any city in the world and there are Man U fans.
But where did it all start?
On November 20th, 1880, a team from the carriage and wagon department of the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway played its first recorded match - and lost 6-0 to a reserve side from Bolton Wanders.
It was the team that was to become world-beaters.
Known as Newton Heath when they were formed by the railway company staff, they became Manchester United in 1902 after the club ran out of money and had to be rescued by a group of local businessman.
By 1908, the newly re-named team had already won the Football League - the first of many triumphs.
'Red Manchester United The Early Years' is the dramatic, enthralling story of those early years.
Football historian Brian Belton tells the story of the hardships, setbacks and struggles that forged the team's incredible will to win - and the character that would bond the team with the great industrial city where it was born.
It is a book that no Manchester United fan, nor any football follower, can afford to miss.
Brian Belton is the author of 'Bolton The Early Years of Bolton FC', 'When magpies First Newcastle FC The Early Years', 'West London Born- The Early Years of QPR' and numerous books on the history of football. His books on the game are primarily a study and celebration of this global congregation, the life carnival of soccer splendour.
