This books feels like having a conversation with a friend and mentor about the journey of their Christian faith. It makes deep and complicated elements of the faith feel simple and easy to understand. McKenzie’s insights are powerful and impactful. This book is valuable for the baby Christian, and just as much for the person who has grown up in the church. So much truth and applicable lessons here!!

Really good

Thus book is jam packed with great wisdom and lessons. What I liked most, was how he gave you visual examples of what he us talking about, that make the information understood and to 'stick'. For example the life saving tips are excellent. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who wants encouragement, and to learn useful life lessons.

This book is a personal account of what it means to follow Jesus turned into a helpful guide! I like reading books that keep my attention on what matters most—LOVING JESUS AND LOVING PEOPLE—and this book does just that! This quote sums up the book for me:

“The Christian faith is not something that we just believe, but it is something that we receive. The faith has been handed down, one generation to the next, for over two millennium. We don’t get to pick and choose what we want to believe and not believe. Christianity is not an a la carte menu of theological treats or spiritual snacks. It’s a One Generation to the Next faith tradition passed down to us. It’s a guide rope anchored on the walls of a dark cave to guide us when we lose our way.”

And, another favorite line: “The opposite of high self-esteem is not low self-esteem, but no self-esteem. We are not supposed to think little of ourselves, we’re not supposed to think of ourselves much at all. If Jesus had been committed to self-love and self-esteem, would he have gone to the cross for you and me?”

I gleaned so much from this book; I highly recommend it!
