The Reed children Kaya and Graham, and their mother are devastated when their father suddenly decides to leave the family, and go out into the world to find himself. But as time goes by, they must move on. What could be better than starting high school with your best friends, making the cheerleading team, and having everything you ever wanted? It's the best time of Kaya's life. But then something changes. At first, Kaya doesn't think the messages she's hearing are a big deal, and she's baffled by her brother being so concerned. But soon it becomes obvious that Kaya is hearing things that no one else can hear. This doesn't cause her too much distress, until one day she hears something so terrible, she can't ignore it, and neither can anyone else, including the authorities. Is Kaya really as ill as everyone thinks she is, or is something else going on? Kaya's brother, Graham, makes it his life goal to find out, before it's too late for his little sister.
I really enjoyed this book. It is a great jumping off point to what is sure to be another amazing series by Debby.
Not that I'm impatiently waiting or anything....cough cough....
As usual, the writing is smooth. You are drawn in and float through the current of writing. Her books always have that effect. You start it and next thing you know, hours have passed.
I saw a review from a person that said they liked it but it didn't go anywhere and we are left wanting more....we'll yeah. That's the point.
It did go places. We learned about characters and their backgrounds that are sure to be prominent as the series grows. It's imperative that we know them for future endeavors.
I know I'm wanting more and I know damn well Debby will deliver. She always does.
So, I just have to wait....impatiently.....for more.
I've said it several times and I'll say it again.....I'm a fan. I can't wait for more books to drop in either of her series.
Thanks Debby for always making reading your books a great experience.
This book was all character building and conversations. The timeline skipped ahead a lot and you have to keep track of what grades the kids were in to know how much time had passed.
I give this 3 stars because it felt like the lead up to something there but there just wasn't a big reveal or revelation to be excited about.
I feel like there were a good deal of unanswered questions as well as places I was just left wondering where the story was going because it didn't seem to get there.
If you really like the psychological aspect this will be right up your alley.
Her father has left her mother and brother to find his way in the world. They are soon getting on with their lives when she begins to hear voices. She is not worried but her brother is as no one else hears them. It is only when they tell her something bad that she begins to worry. Is it all real? Is she just imagining it all? See where life will take her I received an advance copy from hidden gems and I was soon caught up in her tale
Though this is not the author's first book, it is the first one in a new genre, and the first I've ready. If you like a world where characters have unexplained abilities that defy logic, you will likely enjoy this book. If you like character-forward and dialogue-heavy books, you will likely like this book. I definitely recommend it!
First in a new series, this book jumped right in and didn't let up. Since this is a paranormal fantasy, world building is always crucial in the first book to set up the rest of the books.
In this book, we meet the characters and their abilities are described. I was left wanting more, so I'm glad there are other books to look forward to!
I loved this book, but my only issue is that at times, I didn't realize that time had passed and how much until I was a couple of paragraphs into the chapter or pg break. But I really liked how it doesn't take place in the present but when the internet was becoming a thing.
Kaya starts hearing people's thoughts. Mostly of those who wants to hurt her. Her mom and brother think she is crazy. Fora while things go well until her 2nd year of college when it starts again.
When I started reading this book, I figured I would read it over a period of week or two just a little bit at a time but once I got about 10% into the book, I didn’t stop. The story itself was very well written. It’s bit of mystery, paranormal, fantasy all rolled up into one story. The characters are believable. The conversations are believable. The dialogue is believable. It was a fun read and a great setup to the rest of the series. I’m looking forward to the second instalment of the story.
