More than 3 billion people claim to follow Jesus. But aside from a few verses, how many actually know what he taught? In fact, much of what people think Jesus taught, he never said.
In this six-week study, pastor and best-selling author Adam Hamilton explores six of the most important themes in Jesus's teachings, why they matter, and how they speak to us today. The book will explore Jesus's message of repentance, the sermon on the mount, the parables, the I am sayings in John, and more. Jesus's message is not only life-changing, but world-changing. Join Adam Hamilton in studying The Message of Words That Changed the World.
Other components for the study include a leader guide, and teaching video are available.
Rev. Adam Hamilton is the founding pastor of the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas. He grew up in the Kansas City area. He earned a B.A. degree in Pastoral Ministry from Oral Roberts University and a Master of Divinity Degree from Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University.
The United Methodist Church of the Resurrection has grown from four people in 1990 to more than 16,000 adult members with an average weekly worship attendance of more than 8,600 in 2011. The church was listed as the most influential mainline church in America in a 2005 survey of American pastors.
Adam has been married 30 years to LaVon. They have two grown daughters.
I love Pastor Adam Hamilton’s Bible studies: written in relatable language and sprinkled with personal anecdotes, he is a master teacher of Scripture. He inscribed this book when I bought it at the Christmas program at Resurrection Church in December, so this copy will go on my prized bookshelf of autographed books. I also bought the leader’s guide and the accompanying dvd that go with this study. I hope to share it with my neighbors and community church for the Lenten season study. I always learn something new in Pastor Adam’s books, and appreciate the thought he puts into sharing them in order to transform the world into the kingdom Jesus sought to create and model.
I have enjoyed reading many books by Adam Hamilton for some time now and I am always blessed by his wisdom and his words. I learn some new insights about Jesus and his life each time I read about Him. Adam has very deep insights as well as practical knowledge about the faith that I try to live by. Jesus’s last words are so meaningful and profound. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to explore more about Jesus.
What a great book to look at what was the message of Jesus and the Kingdom of heaven. In light of Christian Nationalism, Jesus’ teaching have been ignored or misinterpreted. This book was really good and generated discussion in my small group. I read this along with watching the video. Highly recommend to read on your own or better yet, get a few people together and discuss.
Hamilton emphasizes the words that Jesus spoke -- in his stories and parables, in the Sermon on the Mount, in his I AM statements, in his final words on the cross. Always we are reminded that Christ calls us to serve our fellow beings, to love God and to "remember" Christ himself as we make decisions and relate to others. It was easy to understand yet packs a punch.
There are so many things to learn about the Lenten season by participating in a Lenten bible study. This book helped to highlight Jesus journey to the cross , what happened before and after his resurrection and how we ( believers) are to spread his message of love to everyone.
Once again, Hamilton is able to condense Jesus's words to us in meaningful and expansive ways. This book would work well for a Sunday School group or Bible study. The subject matter is as old as the New Testament, but Hamilton is able to further explain and expand the WORD.
I highly recommend this one for groups and discussions.
Adam Hamilton does a great job summarizing the words and teaching of Jesus in the relatively short and easy to read book. It is a wonderful book to read whether you are a new Christian or a life-long believer. Highly recommend!
Adam has a way of explaining Biblical lessons so they are understandable. I’m not a Bible scholar and appreciate a better understanding of Jesus’s final words, His message from the cross, and how He wants us to live as displayed from the Sermon on the Mound.
Hamilton writes so well. He explains and makes one reflect and ponder the”message” in the Gospel stories. I find his books very thought provoking and meaningful!
This reads like the musings of a Guy with Clout. It’s fine, not terribly remarkable. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend it if you’ve been thoughtfully engaged with Christianity for awhile.
I have always appreciated Adam Hamilton's writings. I deeply appreciate the focus of this book on the teachings of Jesus, as opposed to the actions of Jesus. (I'm not anti actions...but much has been said about what Jesus did...less so about what Jesus taught.)
I appreciate the focus on these "chunks" of scripture that cover major areas like the Sermon on the Mount, Lord's Prayer, etc...but also provide good context for the teachings.
