“You are likely to learn more about winning yacht races by reading this book than from anything you’ve read in quite a while. . . . [It] gives us a close look at Conner―surely the most successful sailboat skipper in the United States today . . .” ―Bruce Kirby No Excuse to Lose is the book Dennis Conner still refers to as “the bible,” He says ( Time magazine, 9 February 1987), “I like to compete. I guess I don’t dislike it, but my sailing is just bottom line, like adding up the score in bridge. My real interest is in the tremendous game of life.”
Despite the title, i thought the book was Dennis Connor's excuse.....sure the Australian boat was faster, and had an innovative design. But, bottom line, the American's lost the Cup for the first time. It left Newport and, thus far, has never returned. (to Newport) Thought the tone was whiny.
