Ransom Odds by David Johnson This is book 3 in the series, but it can be read as a standalone. However, if you read this book as a standalone, like me, you will go back and read books 1 and 2 in the series. After reading Ransom Odds, I wanted to understand more of the back story. So, I began reading book 1 immediately upon finishing book 3. This is the story of Roscoe (town sheriff), Willow (Roscoe’s Native American wife), Junior (Roscoe’s son and deputy sheriff) and Aiyana (little girl lost who holds the key to much information). There are many things that are touched on whether overtly or indirectly. These include topics such the KKK, tensions between blacks and the whites, wondering where you fit in, modern medicine versus holistic medicine, coming of age, friendship and love. You will lose yourself in this book and be glad you did. Pick it up today!
I'm not sure I can say anything that can truly express what I'm feeling now that I've finished this book. The story was great, the characters were well thought out and the plot development was on point. But that's how all of David Johnson's books are. What really set this apart were the last few sentences of the last page. I'm not going to give anything away but my jaw is still on the floor and I cannot wait for the next book in this series!!
I was privileged to receive a copy of Ransom Odds from David Johnson as an ARC reader. I thoroughly enjoyed it! I love small town stories and this certainly filled the bill. The character development was great and highlighted bad choices made by a young man who learns from his mistakes as he grows into maturity. The family dynamics play an important role as the story develops. Thanks, David! I’m a fan!
Oh youth! Junior Ransom makes some questionable decisions as a young man. Working as a deputy for his father the sheriff, he finds a child who isn't talking but leads him to a dead man. Junior finds himself as he investigates the mystery. The characters are well-rounded and easy to relate too. This is a small town mystery that will keep you reading.
I received this book as an ARC for my honest opinion.
I’m hooked. I can’t stop reading each book. This author has me captivated. I recommend this little series of dramas in the Ransom family. There’s mystery, crimes, love stories and statements to highlight , copy and reflect. Read on avid reader. Dave I’d Johnson is on a talent roll. His artistic flair in writing is amazing. I feel like I personally know each character. My favorite character is Willow.
David Johnson crafts great stores with heart, but also a good measure of grit. Each character has such a mixture of good and flawed aspects that they seem very real. The post depression era is rich with true stories of people trying to find their way to a better life. The Ransom series brings it to life.
This was a really good book. It kept me intrigued from start to finish. I finished it in 2 days, it was that good. Looking forward to reading the next installment in the Ransom series
I really enjoy the characters in this story. They are good, they are flawed and somehow they overcome their mistakes to become better and to help someone along the way. You will love this series/story
Great series to read and enjoy in my opinion. Full of twists and turns to keep reader interested in all three books. Would recommend this set. Also, the Tucker's Way series of books , also written by David Johnson were just as good and to be considered!
Loved how the author describes so clearly the characters and scene. Really enjoyed seeing Junior and Roscoe and especially Willow again. Mystery that slowly unfolds is satisfying
