As I am trying to get my blog off the ground, I was excited when I was selected to review this book. I wouldn't say that I'm blocked, but any inspiration would help. Well that, and if I could find some extra time in my day (as any writer would say). With that thought in mind, I dove in.
Right in the beginning, after reading the introduction, I was hit with an advertisement page - buy my companion book! I know I was given this for free in exchange for my review, but had I spent money on this book, it would irritate me that now I need to spend even MORE money to get something out of this. I don't even know if I like this book - so let's begin.
In going through the 62 blog posts, I didn't find a way to overcome bloggers block. Instead I was reading 62 different types of blog posts, and then a real world example. While there were a couple of good ideas listed that could work with my blog, many wouldn't. This book reads better for those that are just starting out and aren't sure where they want to go with their blog.
Towards the end of the book, I felt like I was being barraged with advertisements for the author - buy my other book! Go to my website! Look at these testimonials of people who love me! I was also realizing that all of the blog examples were dated 2011 or 2012. Why couldn't the author use current blogs? I then looked at the copyright date and realized it was published back in 2012.
For those of you who would like to start a blog, and are not sure how they want to format their posts, give this book a try for some good ideas.
I received this e-book from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I just came out of blog vacation, which I took because of blogger's block and some real life things. So obviously I thought 'this is the book for me!'.
After reading it I know it's not the book for me. It really isn't about getting out of blogger's block. It's more a these-are-the-ways-you-can-blog-book. And not even a good one. There's just a little pro section and a short what you need to keep in mind section. Then a real blog picture as an example, not done by the author but by real bloggers.
Let's get real. Everything you need to know about blogging you can find on the internet. People blog about blogging. I learned how to blog using blogging 101s.
It didn't help me get out of blogger's block. Apparently there is a workbook you can get as well, probably you'll write a blog post for each blogging idea. I don't know. I don't want to find out.
I'm very disappointed, because I really hoped for something different.
Disclaimer: I got it for free through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you.
Hill's 62 Blog Posts is a collection of various types of blog posts ranging from reviews to infographics to humour. There are eleven different sections that collects various types of posts. Each post type lists pros, cons, and other things to consider.
Part One collects the most popular types of posts like how-tos, inspirational, and lists. Part Two focuses on types of multi-media posts such as photos, audio, and webinars. Part Three looks at types of posts that honour others such as interview, guest posts, and gratitude posts.
Part Four went over posts to get your readership engaged, from simple things like quizzes and polls, to things with the potential to be more complex, like contests/giveaways, and open discussions. Parts Five and Six present ideas for showcasing your authority or ability to be a resource, with such suggestions as reviews, FAQs, and Special Reports. Part Seven gives ideas for a variety of humour posts like parody or jokes.
Parts Eight and Nine collects ideas for news and views, such as editorials and debates. Part Ten has just two suggestion under the label Additional Posts, these being announcements and traffic/income reports. The last section, Part Eleven, gives ideas for collating and condensing your information such as turning it into hardcopy or ebooks, making ‘Best of’ compilations, or creating a post series.
These ideas are very useful for a wide range of bloggers. Depending on what your focus is, you can pick the types of posts that best fit your needs, and tweak them to suit your own needs. If you want to branch out, or try a hand at something new, there is plenty here to get you started. I saved lots of the suggested links to resource programs for things like audio/video or creating animations. Perhaps I'll get brave enough to try something new myself!

As a blogger I didn't really have a bloggers block yet, lucky me, but sometimes I'm look for a new type of articles. This book contains 62 types of blogs, so I got really inspired by it.
Eh, this is more towards someone who does not have a niche they use. Not really a hit for me since my niche is reviews of anime/books/ect. If you have a general blog this would be a great read.
