Daisy Wong: The Runaway Concubine

The trail leads back and forth across the solar system, from dives to resorts. It is a path paved with deception, genetic engineers, and murder. Among the issues this novelette touches on are marital fidelity, love, hate, and duty. Lt. Daisy Wong grew up in a criminal family, and yet, she has chosen a career in law enforcement. This means that she is able to walk both sides of that very porous fence, an ability that makes her simultaneously an asset and a liability to both her family and to her employers. It means that she must juggle loyalties, while retaining her own sense of integrity and honor. Above all, it is a dangerous, lethally dangerous, place for her to be. The bonus novelette is Jousting for Ma's New Brain. It is a fight story set an L-5 colony. The hero needs to win the big fight in order to afford a brain transplant for his beloved mother. Again half the story
Granted it was a good one but hate when it leaves you guessing the rest and at 50% of the page count it could have been properly ended with answers to all the questions.
Daisy and her partner have been requested by one of her esteemed uncles to bring back his concubine. One that he believes is pregnant. Their search sends them on a wild goose chase until they reach an android facility. The concubine's helper is dead but they get a clue which suggests that she is coming after her uncle with the express desire to kill him. Now frantic they employ all their talent to keep her uncle safe and to get back to him before a murderous attempt can be made. Will they? Is it the baby or the mother that is the most dangerous? Will anyone survive the encounter?
