In "Library Conundrum," excitement brews as Kayla Luna, the vivacious head librarian, eagerly awaits a generous donation from esteemed resident Angus Connolly. His prized books promise to enrich the shelves of the local library with tales of wonder and knowledge.
Yet, amidst the anticipation, a startling discovery disrupts the tranquility. A mysterious book, not intended for donation, slips into the collection—an innocuous mistake with profound consequences. This book, "Secrets of Sweethaven," clandestinely records the intimate details and hidden indiscretions of the town's inhabitants.
As whispers of the unexpected inclusion spread, Kayla's assistant, the wise and perceptive Katerina Suarez, unknowingly stirs the pot with a casual mention of the new acquisitions during a conversation at the beloved Tiny Delights Bakery. The revelation sends shockwaves through the tight-knit community, sparking fear and suspicion among those whose secrets may be laid bare.
But the turmoil escalates when tragedy strikes and Angus Connolly is found dead under suspicious circumstances, leaving behind a web of intrigue and unanswered questions. Now, Kayla must navigate a treacherous landscape of deception and betrayal to uncover the truth before Sweethaven's darkest secrets tear the town apart. Especially, Sweethaven is a town where everyone knows everyone else's business, unraveling the mystery may lead Kayla into the hands of a killer.
I was given an electronic version of this book to read and review. It is Book Three in the Small Town Big Magic Short Reads. Since I had not read other stories in the series or anything else by this author, the inclusion of a cast of characters is definitely helpful, especially when jumping into a series mid-way.
The Prologue “In the heart of Sweethaven, nestled amidst the charming streets and bustling community, lies secrets that can kill” is a really great summary hinting at the secrets hidden within Sweethaven.
Set in Connecticut, it was an easy and cute cozy with a bakery and the library as the town’s hub for information. Angus Connolly is a long-time fixture who is planning on donating his book collection to the library and there is a rumor he has a book of secrets that causes many residents to be afraid of what it contains. He is known to cause strife with people. His death causes relief to some, but the book’s whereabouts is still unknown. Kayla, the librarian and Cody, the sheriff investigate who killed Angus and try to track down the mysterious book.
Whiskers, the library cat, added a delightful touch to the story! I would probably explore more from this series and author.
Another fun and quick in this new little series. I’ve come to think of the recurring characters as new book friends, and I hope Kayla joins the cast of recurring as well. Sheriff Cody’s reveal was awesome and the naming whodunit at the end, very clever! I’m eager to read the next book now.
