Rate this book
In 2027 in the New Republic of Texas, former Capitol police officer, Jensen, is hiding in her Hill Country prepper compound. Forced apart from her true love, and carrying another man’s baby, she’s desperate to record her story before the high-risk pregnancy takes her life.

The cities are failing, and keeping her chosen tribe and their compound safe from other outcasts and exiles surrounding them in the wilderness of the New Wild West is paramount. Protecting her people comes first.
Jensen wrestles with the fated events that lead them to this point. When she had fallen in love with a member of a powerful political family a decade ago, she knew her chance at happiness was near zero, but no one could have foreseen how their love story would impact the world to come.

She must regain her freedom and find a way back to her soulmate—if she can survive.

Behind the Fall is a near-future, romantic political thriller that examines what it means to be vulnerable in dark times—with strangers, with lovers, and with enemies. Buy Behind the Fall today for a haunting, “it could happen here” read.

I really enjoyed this book! Behind the Fall is the first book in a new dystopian series set in West Texas. It is a compelling story that hooks you in and keeps you wanting to find out what happens next. The storyline alternates between two timelines 10 years apart so you can see the before and after of events that altered the characters’ lives. The second book One of Us is due out in the Fall of 2024. My only regret is how long I will have to wait to read the next series of events in these characters lives. I highly recommend this book.

This book has lots of great reviews so I think it is me who did not quite follow it. I struggled with the dual time line and the dual naming of the main character Jill/Jenson - the initial love story with PTSD touched characters and their roles in the US elite was a good read especially about those who return from war with traumas.

The subsequent story of the separating of Jill and Derek and Jill now named Jenson who kind of leads a survival camp in a devastated US was very choppy with many characters who were sketchily introduced. I had trouble separating who was who and what role they played.

Nevertheless a pleasant read.

This was a very enjoyable read! Good levels of tension, action & pace, following the same main female character from the previous story, facing more madness in a spiralling, dystopian world. A tale of survival & strength, interesting ideas & a really good read!

Outstanding !!!

What a fantastic story! This book may be dubbed as a romantic novel but it is much more than that! Every chapter makes you wanna read more !!! I could hardly put it down. I do hope that there’s a sequel to this book as there are so many unanswered questions.
