I love the idea of taking a long-distance hike one day, so my interest was piqued when I saw this book about hiking the Camino de Santiago at a book fair. In the book, Andrea offers a day-by-day account of her 38 days on the Camino with helpful information on what she saw that day, where she stayed, and amenities at those places. On each day, there is an inspirational quote, all of which resonated so well. And there is advice on how to deal with ups and downs, both physical and mental, such as blisters, loneliness, and even gastrointestinal distress. Beyond knowing exactly what Andrea did on her Camino, it was helpful that she started the book with advice for all hikers on how to prepare for a trip like hers. It was helpful to know how she trained and to see her exact packing list(!). It was also helpful to understand how much I might want to plan ahead vs. leave up to serendipity. As I get closer to planning a hike like this, I'll certainly turn to this as a resource again and again.
