Welcome to the world of the Bangkok Cat and his friends, both feline and human. They live in modern Thailand so they have some of the same problems faced by modern Thais of both species. How to live in this fast paced, fast changing world? a world that is changing even faster in Thailand than it is in many other places. What is the importance of family and tradition in an age when both are in transition? How to bridge the enormous gap between the great city of Bangkok and the rural countryside? What will the future be like? In four short stories the Bangkok Cat and his humans wrestle with these problems. They don’t reach a conclusion but they learn to live with things the way they are and emerge confident that they can handle anything that is to come. This is a book for children and parents and people who love cats and cats who love, or at least tolerate, people. In the first tale “The Bangkok Cat’s Big Decision” Phet the Bangkok Cat has to decide which he loves more, the city life of Bangkok or his rural family who have decided to move back to their remote village. In “The Bangkok Cat in Isaan” Phet has chosen family over location and struggles to adjust to a new frightening and unfamiliar world. In “The Bangkok Cat and Nin Hit the Road” he has adjusted to that new world but finds it not as exciting as city life so he decides to embark on an adventure and one of the village cats wants to go with him. In the final tale, “The Bangkok Cat and the Cane Cutters”, the two adventurous felines get more than they bargained for as the mild adventure they planned turns frightening and dangerous.
