In our postmodern 21st century, defined by compromise and relativism, we need radical leaders that will adhere to Biblical values, have a holistic approach to youth ministry, champion the cause of the local church and believe that the Gospel works. This book unlocks essential keys to becoming this kind of leader.
Christine Caine is a speaker, author, and activist who has been serving the local church globally for over 30 years. She and her husband, Nick, founded the anti-human trafficking organization, The A21 Campaign, which works at the local, domestic, and international level to end modern-day slavery. They also founded Equip & Empower, a ministry that is mobilizing people everywhere to live on mission for Jesus. Propel Women is an initiative of the ministry dedicated to coming alongside women all over the globe to activate their God-given purpose. The ministry has also planted three life-giving Zoe Churches in Europe that are not only bringing the Gospel to the region, but also serve the most vulnerable through humanitarian outreach during times of crisis.
Christine is the best-selling author of more than a dozen books and studies and you can tune into her weekly podcast or television program to be encouraged with the hope of Jesus wherever you are.
Although the back cover looks promising, it really doesn't do much for encouraging leaders to be REAL. Sure, it talks about non-conformism a little bit, but in its approach of being "relevant" it misses out so much and misses so many important points of youth ministry that it kind of wraps up the same stuff with a different bow. One step up from being a "bad" youth leader, to one who may love Jesus, but seemingly is afraid to present Him for who He truly is. Teens are intelligent spirit beings who NEED the TRUTH. We don't need to water it down or dress it up in a tutu for them. This kind of youth leadership will bring in the numbers for sure. But not a whole lot of true converts.
Youth ministry - Principles for the 21st century by Christine caine is leaders guide for youth ministry. The author explains about what it takes do be a youth leader during this postmodern era. She prepares a guide to understand the present youth, tools for a youth leader, issues faced by a youth leader and how to overcome it. The book contains 20 essential characteristics for a youth leader (she calls it the DNA of a youth leader) She deep dives into each characteristic and explains them with a brief application point after each chapter. I haven't read a lot of books on this topic but this book is a keeper and I'm sure I'll refer back to it.
