Book one of the Aracan Sword of Fire & Light.

The Qahil desert is barren, unforgiving, and godless. Long abandoned by the Divine Council of gods. Its inhabitants struggle every day for survival. Yet, Talwar knows little of this struggle. His father, an outsider and the current sheik of the Alei, has tamed the Qahil. His reign brought peace and prosperity to a portion of the desert once thought impossible. Yet, his father's past casts an ominous shadow over Talwar.

Talwar, the Son of the Sheik of the Alei. He enjoys painting and playing the oud. He is proficient with the sword and, in his words, "an excellent flame channeler." But will his skill with a blade and mastery of fire be enough to defeat those that seek his death?

Suliman, the sheik of the Alei. He abandoned his heritage, his family, and his life. All to protect him and his wife's son. An abomination that shouldn't exist. Can he lead his people and his family in victory against their enemies?

Ishwari, the wife of the sheik and daughter of the Alei. Her skill with a sword had always been enough to overcome any enemy that dared to come against her. Will her sword be enough to protect her son against the forces that seek his life?

Rohan, a talented physician and warrior. He leads his clan across the Kinrell ocean from the Uthmark, with powerful forces at their heels. Rohan seeks refuge in the desert among old friends long thought dead. Will he able to save his clan and what remains of his family or will his enemies prevail?

This was a great read which develops several storylines and excellent battle scenes that wouldn’t let me put the books down. Can’t wait to see how the story continues in book 2.
