I loved this book. I felt encouraged, challenged, and comforted by its wisdom during a really busy season of my life. Not only is it beautifully written, it’s also easy to connect to, and I found myself thinking about different practical and theological ideas in the book long after I put it down. One of those ideas is the need to release insecure or performative spirituality (and the characteristics/posture associated with it) and replace it with what God invites us to - childlike spirituality. I would highly recommend it for anyone who is looking to slow down and be reminded of who they are in Christ and the ways in which we are invited to pray.

This easy read is clear, honest, and really encouraging. Jeremy does a great job of showing how prayer isn’t just something we *should* do—it’s something we *get* to do. It’s filled with real-life examples, helpful tips, and solid truth from the Bible.

What I loved most is how it makes prayer feel more personal and less intimidating. It reminded me that prayer is about relationship, not performance. Whether you're just starting out or have been praying for years, this book can help you grow closer to God.

Often times throughout this book I WANTED to stop and pray. It starts with pointing out that prayer starts with need and desperation, and how Jesus loved being interrupted with our needs. And how our Father loves to respond generously, so why don’t we come to him with our many needs.

Perhaps the first step in spiritual maturity is not actually to want to be like Jesus. It is to NEED: to be desperate, willing, believing, honest… people who approach him and bring their need.

We need to see that we can come bounding into Gods presence - but also that he’s excited to see us too just like a parent !

And more solid points on confession, contemplative prayer, lament, and … as the title points out… pouring out your heart like water, and as those thoughts which come to our minds are usually behind some fear or anxiety.

And at the end, all prayer turns to praise. Wow. “And we’ll see the point of the whole thing is to spend time with God and praise his name forever.”

I got this book after I saw Jeremy on Remnant Radio. Which that was a very good interview. This book was very encouraging and helpful. I have been cultivating a better prayer life myself and Jeremy brought some great insights to my attention. I especially liked his explanation about contentment. Contentment is a lost value in today’s society. I strongly recommend this book to anybody wanting to grow in their prayer life.

This was an excellent book on prayer. The author clearly tells his readers there are no experts on prayer; everyone is a beginner, and everyone stays a beginner. This book is full of practical advice, If you’re a Christian, you will eagerly devour this book.

This is a read I do not want to soon forget. It was poignant and refreshing. It discussed commonly known forms of prayer, but with enough interest and nuance that my attention was fixed. I particularly liked the chapter (2) on God asking us what we want (for self-examination). This consideration set the stage for the book well. Like other books on prayer, humility was considered a key factor—with the book ending by saying we will never be experts in prayer (lest we want to be like the Pharisees). I also liked the author’s suggestion that we identify the form of prayer (of the 9 discussed) that comes most naturally so that we can make that the bedrock of our personal prayer habits while building out to other forms from there (i.e. every Christian’s prayer life does not need to look the same).
